    Crumbling lighting connectors

    E32s are old, and I'm sure we all have experienced our headlight or fog light connectors breaking off when changing the bulb. Is there a preferred method of replacing these connectors? I'm afraid they won't properly secure the connectors anymore, as the tabs are all broken.

    I have replaced most of the connectors and have a lot stock of new connectors of all kinds, bought them over the years, some of them are even no longer available now.
    If you want to make it perfect, buy;
    Snap-in receptacle watertight, comes with a pigtail to solder or crimp in and then use shrink sleeves
    click for example on the first one on the pic, there you can see the outer plastic on the connector, this is brittle on the old ones, breaks and then the pins are not secured http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=61_2654
    not the cheapest, but best. Otherwise use tape and replace the broken plastic and put on as much tape that you have the thickness of the original pin again, then they do not slip out of the plug anymore.
    Connectors are still plenty available http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=61_2644

    The one I need, for the headlight connector, seems to be greyed out/missing from the parts list (numbers 3 and 4 on the diagram):

    These 3 and 4 seem to be US style, I have the EURO light connectors. If NLA, just get a new connector set from a car accessory shop, maybe summitracing has some https://www.summitracing.com/int/sea...headlight-plug

    IF you have a junkyard in your area and IF the e34 has the same connectors Id start there. The later e34s had much better plastics but in some cases had the same equipment as our earlier e32s. From there you just take your time and repin your wires into the new connector! I need one for my sunroof plug and the power window switch but the local yard has a 94 525 that has much better plugs in it.
