I wasnt sure where to post this so forgive me if its in the wrong place.
I'm looking for some one to replace chain guides / vanos etc on my 2001 740i.
Local BMW dealer said he does not have anyone who knows how to do it.
I do know how to do it but do not have the facilities or inclination to do it.
I'm actually located in Harleysville PA which is 40 miles NW of Philly.
Thanks, mike
I can't believe a BMW dealer to say such a thing Wow!
C217 S63 AMG S Cabriolet ( Daily )
E87 116i with mild cams, headers, cold air intake making 136 bhp Lol (My Learning Track Car)
E36 328i Sport ( Project in making and future race/track car )
Try www.bimrs.org. Also, check the website of the Delaware valley chapter of the BMWCCA for recommendations.
The BMW dealer has probably learned the hard way that presenting a bill for several thousand dollars to a fellow owning a two thousand dollar car doesn't often end well. I suspect this is just another way of declining a job they foresee as "troublesome".
Dealerships aren't the place for old cars anyway, high price, the mechanics aren't usually too familiar with the oldies and none of them want some greasy old car to work on when there are a line of near new ones needing repairs they can book time on without getting rust in their eyes.
Local BMW club is probably a good resource as would be the E38 sub-forum here. https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/f...1995-2001-(E38)

If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue
