I have been a lurker on this site for a while, making a few replies here and there and I want to start getting more involved with the forums, especially now that I have something to talk about.
I recently purchases a beautifully maintained M3 with around 86,000 miles on it, big brake kit, coil overs, fresh paint job, full interior wrapped, Bride seats. The lot. Oh and a big hair dryer bolted to the intake. The car is clean, and fast. I decided that with the power that it is making I dont want to risk anything happening to the motor, before even buying the car I knew I was going to rip into the motor and build it with forged internals. My plans are to go with JE forged low compression (9:1) pistons, forged Carrillo rods, King Bearings, and of course ARP all around. I would like to get some feedback from others who may have went a similar route and any problems they have encountered. Or if anyone has better ideas on different brands, as JE and Carrillo are freggin expensive. The motor is already out of the car, and I am working with a shop near me to build the bottom end for me, planning on 12-14psi of boost to make around 600Bhp. Not sure if anyone will read and or care about this tread, but if people are interested I can post pictures of the car and build.
Any comments would be great,
Thanks!
Welcome to the Obsession!
Of course pictures would be nice, and while I am not a builder, it would be interesting to see the process.

A couple of pictures of what she looked like... Hopefully she'll look the same once everything is put back together lmao. I am not confident enough to build the motor myself, and I'm torn between having frank smith build the motor for me, or this shop near me that specializes in BMW's. Either way it will get done but not sure by who.

Nice cAr ... for the power level u are aiming for u can use Molnar Rods and Weisco pistons if u want to keep the price down. uThey are good can can support 1000+hp. Need to use a torque plate when doing machine work. Also using main studs u will need to do an align hone. Decking the block with front cover on is very important. The machining is critical. Do at the very lease valve leakage test and new seals. Important to do Vanos beefing up. Balancing the reciprocating assembly is a must. With lower compression U will need to re tune. Also u will need to up boost to at lease 15psi and not exceed ur supercharges flow capability. What r u plans for tuning it ?

Thinking of going with JE turbo 10:1 pistons and Molnar rods, been doing some research and they seem pretty good. Was going to have Frank Smith from Maryland build the motor for me and do all the machining and tune it.
