    Active Cruise Control.

You need a BMW oriented diag scanner to check and clear the errors in the whole car system.

Not entirely sure by what was actually done for 'reset the dashboard' though.

    Hey,
the scanners are not showing this light as an error
the manual has nothing about it too

What scanner are you using? If it happens to be a 2-dollar pocket scanner, well.....

i don't think a US market '03 X5 would have had active cruise - would it?

If that is the case, then it is a coding problem.

on dashboard you can reset it by using the two buttons and confirming in case one of the indicators was not working fine

someone advise to take off the battery cables and then re-connect them, do u think this can help ? I am afraid to do so and end up with memory problems in car

When you disconnect a battery in those cars, the most you will lose is the odo trip mileage. Now if the battery is off for say 20 minutes or more, then you tend to lose the station memory in the radio as well.

Most modern BMW's, removing the battery will do nothing to reset the computers, as they don't have volatile memory like the OBD-I cars.

I think you will need INPA or ISTA to fix the problem and see what code is setting the light.

I've never ever seen that symbol. Certainly, there was no active cruise on a 2003 X5 that I've seen, at least.

You need to talk to ALL the computers, with ISTA, Autologic, or some other top-quality diag computer. If it's a coding issue, as Abel suggests, you're going to need ISTA to fix it.

That is why I had asked myself, for in that location the symbol is suppose to be the warning for the self-leveling suspension.
