    What is this beast?

    2003 525i on the right side coming off the headlight wiring loom. Currently homeless. Where does it reside?

    That is your expansion tank's coolant level sensor.

    Funny that its absence doesn't trigger an alarm. Most sensors fail safe. Thanks!

    So does that one. It should give a "Check Coolant " message if it is working properly.
    I soldered mine to a dead short to shut mine up. I think the magnet in the exp tank gave up.
    It should be an open circuit until you put a magnet near it. Then it is a closed circuit.

    Yeah, bobber bobs. Just couldn't ever get the sensor to sense.
