Just curious, any 4-series owners add an aftermarket air intake?
Considering an air intake for the n55 engine. Looks like Injen and Dinan both add about the same hp and torque. thoughts?

BMW does a great job of engine design including their air intakes. I doubt you will get any noticeable increase in power by installing an after market intake and you may see less power (but again I doubt you would notice it). The only thing you may be able to get from an after market intake is a different sound.

These answers are quite silly...i also have a gtr...you think the fine folks at nissan built an engine so perfect that no additional hp can be gained?

Its your car and your money, so you (obviously) can do what you want to do, but if you do a bit of research you will find the responses above are in line with what others have discovered. If you do get a CAI please show us before and after dynamometer results. Sound is about the only thing you will get by adding a CAI to a modern BMW. Even BMW's M-Performance CAI doesn't add horsepower, only sound.Originally Posted by wilk187

so is my only option to remap the ecu and do a stage 2 or perhaps larger inter cooler? Never had a bmw that wasn't a 7series and wondering what's out there without destroying my warranty!

There are a few after market tunes out there (JB4, Dinan, etc). Don't think you will need to add a larger inter cooler unless you are really going crazy with the boost. I added the MPPK, but didn't need to change out the inter cooler. I think all but the BMW option is a piggy back setup.

IMG_0625.JPG Decided to go with the M performance kit from BMW instead of dropping 6k on a Dinan upgrade right off the bat. Excellent throttle response and torque increase from the minute i left the dealership!
