    Battery/start issue

2008 x3 3.0 getting ready to take car to dealer to work on some oil leaks valve cover presumably and transmission pan. Showing son how to change wipers. Battery goes dead on us. Jump start. no response. Charge battery. No response. Charge battery seemingly full after 5 hours with cables disconnected and now nothing. lights etc all come on but no sign of cranking life. is there a reset or security code need possible? frustrating! I suspect I need a new battery as it has been slow to crank but seems it should start off a jump start or a full charge from a decent battery charger. Thoughts?

If the battery is more than 4-5 yrs old it's probably toast. Have it load tested. Check all cables and clean with a wire brush. Otherwise maybe a key transponder issue.

My X3 did the same thing. It ended up being the starter. Have it tested before spending $200+ on a battery.

Sounds like the same symptoms I had when my starter went out. It's worth a try to give the starter a rap with something to see if it starts afterward. I was able to give mine a hit from underneath using an 18" breaker bar.
