Hey gang, I've been spending hours on end at night writing in my diary trying to decide if I would like a 1 series as my next car. Here is the reason for my indecisiveness. I owned an e30, in late model, 5 speed, 2 door, 325i form, and even with it's relatively small hp figures it was one of the best handling cars, and best all around cars I have enjoyed.
In talking to some cars and coffee people I have heard two camps, one saying the 1 series reminds them of an e30, others saying the only one worth buying is the 1M, for that "ultimate spending experience". Is there truth to any of it? I have yet to drive one, but all things considered, my budget would allow me for a 135i, manual, in coupe form porfavor. Are the facelift models worth the extra coin?
I plan to daily it, but not full time, maybe 3-4 days out of the week. Some tasteful mods, coilovers and wheels and go from there. I just want a car that I can wrench on myself and keep for the long term (5+ years). Would it be naive to think that I can wrench on it myself? Or do most things require a BMW specific scan tool for a one time use.
I have had my e30, an e38 740i with sport package, e36 325i, e28 528i and now I'm rocking a z3 roadie with the 2.8l in stick mode. All these cars I've been able to more or less do 99% of things myself and would like to continue that way.
Lend me your thoughts, cheers guys
