I am looking to replace my headlamp assemblies with new OEM parts. The vehicle has original lamps with normal road rash for the life of this vehicle. Does anyone have experience with an OEM replacement source for headlamp assemblies. Part numbers are 63128386047-48. I like the original look vs the aftermarket products that are available.
The dealer is pretty much the only source for new. And they've gone up in price, as you've noticed. They were much cheaper before.

Have you even tried the 3M sanding refinishing system?

I have not tried the 3M refinishing yet, although I have read a few threads with other sanding methods. Do you have a website for reference that I could learn more?
Thanks.
This could be a good starting place. A post by someone who has actually used the products would be better.

ECS has them. https://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-Z3-M_R...ng/Headlights/
But if you don't want to drop that kind of money, you can buy a used low-mileage set on eBay (doesn't matter if they're amber or clear corners) where the tabs on the housing are busted but the "glass" is still clean and not pitted. Then just swap the fronts. I've seen them go for $50.
There is nothing like new assemblies, not sure if the sanding method will eliminate all of the pitting. I will look through ebay for assemblies with broken tabs and clean glass.
Thanks.
I have a BNIB New OE headlight if anyone wants one for less than retail pricing, passenger side https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...passenger-side

Anyone know if applying protective film over the lens will protect from UV damage/hazing?
Considering doing that to 3 of my cars.

I used the 3M kit on my coupe and it's pretty amazing. They were yellow and badly pitted before, now look great. I got another set of slightly yellowed headlights recently for $200 and plan to do the same, just to have a spare set.

I'm sold on it, but part pf the process is removing the manufacturer's UV protection, so the yellowing/hazing comes back even faster.
Maybe do them and then protect with Expell?

You are absolutely correct Randy. I had my headlight lenses restored and then had Dyno Shield installed on them. They look brand new.....20170417_110905.jpg
