You can pick up E65/66 cars very cheap these days. Today I purchased this 2006 BMW 760i (shorty sporty) 12cyl 130k mi for $5K!
Runs and drives nice. It needs some TLC for sure but the bones are good; California car, fresh smog, no bodywork, interior almost like new. A nice addition to my 91 850i and 01 740i sport.

5k's a good price, i just "totaled" one last month, needing new injectors and high pressure fuel pumps. thought about buying it and fixing/flipping but thats what got me into my 8..

Nice find, and very nice price -- congrats. Around here, by the time depreciation has done that kind of work on high-end car prices, the interiors tend to be completely tatted out, and you're almost certain to get some ridiculous set of 24" aftermarket chromed wheels (or worse) with bald rubber in the deal.
Cheers, John
Nice ride!
A few months ago I bought an e38 750il for about $600 (5000sek/Swedish)
A lot of electrical problems but I see it as a spare m73 engine in a big package waiting for me to blow the m70 in my e31. Having turbo plans.

This has been been a very time consuming project but I finally got it all back together and looking pretty nice...
Did the coolant transfer pipe, injectors cleaned, walnut blasted the intake valves and lots more.

Glad you're enjoying the project. There's a reason E65/66's are so cheap. Most of them are giant pieces of crap, needing more $$$ to fix them then what they are worth.

They do go wrong quite often - but an E31 owner is just the sort of owner they need as E31's go wrong quite often! It is a heck of a lot of car for the money, and they are excellent cars but often end up in the wrong hands that can't wrench and don't want to spend the money, I think this one has found the right place.

i'm scared to hell when i see al those wires..... every piece must have a sensor.
Not for me, the E31 has already enough of them…. to much for my taste.
Well, a N73 has got a lot of nice stuff and things, like valvetronic, 4 valves per cylinder, direct injection and so one... I love this car! I have an 2006 E66 760Li Individual Special Edition:

Well you are right about the $$$. I've now spent almost $5K on parts... most likely more than it is worth! It's amazing how quickly it adds up. But I have no regrets, not yet at least!
