    Locked Out

Team Bimmerforum; I had my car on a trickle charge and on jacks while I was out of country. I’m in the process of putting it back on the road, but my battery is dead, trunk is locked, can’t get in and I can’t get to the batteries. Any ideas on how to get access to the trunk?

There are jump terminals under the hood also, You can Mechanically open the trunk, Did you try putting the key in the trunk key hole, Turning it and pulling the lever while the key is inside?

My method is: insert trunk key, do not turn it, and push straight up on key. Trunk lid should open now. This really depends on how freely the lock and latch mechanisms are moving.

Sigh.... in the trunk lock, insert key. Turn key to unlock and let it return. Remove key and push button (where you had the key stuck in) up. You get one shot at this before having to do the key part all over again, so do not be timid. The trunk WILL open.

Yes, IF the car is unlocked and one can actually get under the hood, you can indeed jump to the terminals there... but the mechanical trunk unlock process described above is failsafe

You can hook up a power source to the flashlight charger if you just need to open the trunk and the key method doesn't work (it needs adjusted).

Thank you all! Yes, I tried the mechanical key process, still won’t open. This has never happened. I’m going to try some of the other ideas here in the thread...

Poor bloke, he's had three posts on how to open the trunk - and only one of them is right (cartoonz)! Here's the routine with pictures - and it will work if you have the right key:

Good news, got it opened. I had no idea the terminals were available in the front hood. Good to know...
