I just got back my Z4 from having a new Valve Cover gasket put on. My heater fan now does not work. Could the mechanic have disconnected a wire to my heater? If not, any suggestions. I checked all fuses behind the glove dept.
You almost certainly need a new final stage resistor. The valve cover job is not involved. The most common failure part in the BMW book just failed. Of course, you should check the fuse first.

Is a final Stage Resistor replacement a big job? Approx. cost for replacement. Thanks
By the book, it's 1.4 hours labor, and a ~hundred dollar part. Certainly a job you could do by yourself, if you don't mind crawling upside down under the passenger dash.

Thanks for the information. I will attempt to find info. on how to replace the Stage Resistor.
In reading on the forum, One person said he corrected his heater problem by having the computer reset. His problem was caused by dis connect of the battery. In replacing my valve cover, the battery was disconnected for quite sometime. Is it possible this could be my problem.
Not in my experience. When you disconnect the battery for a while on an ~'06 BMW, you'll lose the clock setting, and set codes in the ABS, airbag, and a few other computers, for voltage. Other than that, nothing happens. The IHKA doesn't care at all.
If it were my own car, or a customer's I'd certainly plug in a BMW specific diagnostic computer and see what codes are in the computers, and then clear them. Then I'd check the fuses for the blower motor and IHKA.....and then I'd order a final stage resistor.
Well, actually, when this happened on my own car, I just went ahead and ordered the final stage and installed it....because on my own car, I can just follow my hunch, and my experience.

Fuse 57, and while you're there, check fuse 39 and 22. Check all of these with key on, blower on. If these fuses are good, order the final stage resistor.
