Oil pressure and battery lights inop

Working on my E46 Touring. S54 engine swap complete. The original cluster and the M3 cluster are doing the same thing. Self tests show that ALL lights are functioning. However, both clusters do NOT display the red low pressure or battery lights when the key is turned to either position 1 or 2. The M3 harness is in place, everything is properly attached, and a known good oil pressure switch has been swapped in. I am ready to start the car but will not until I resolve the low pressure light issue. Why? The engine was almost entirely rebuilt so I need to know I have oil pressure before I start it.

    Thoughts?

Did you check Fuse #34? That is the fuse in the wiring diagram for both on that car, should be a 5-amp.

Also once it goes from the dash, the DME is providing the ground it seems, so make sure your DME is properly grounded.

I have checked 34. It powers the entire cluster, not just those two lights. The actual ground is supplied by the low oil pressure warning sensor. With now pressure the sensor reads zero ohms, and opens at 7 psi and this turns off the light. Yes, that ground signal passes through the DME. What is odd is that pin 11 is vacant on that plug in my wiring harness. NOT a broken wire, as there is wire terminal in position 11. Either my wiring harness is the issue, or the wiring diagram is. I have an E39, so I am going to do some cross checking in the Bentley manuals and the plugs at the DMEs. Since both are 2.5s, they MIGHT be the same.

Technically there are 3 fuses that power the instrument cluster, #34 is just one of them that does it for those two lamps in question.

Pin #11 on the Cluster should go to the fuel level sensor. I am not sure if there was a change in the years, or not. Pin #11 on the DME is the input from the instrument cluster for the Oil pressure light.

What I would do is check Pin #26 at the DME to see if it goes to the Pressure sending unit (BR/GN) for continuity. Also what you can do is ground that pin to see if the light comes on.

I am going to test what I can. However, pins 11 and 26 in this case are on different plugs. Pin 11 on the 40 pin plug is vacant.

Can I get the Year of the wagon?

Also did you use the original engine harness out of the M3? What year is it?

I am going to fire up the old laptop to see if they made a change thru the years.

Well, turb01168 on E46fanatics has supplied me a link to a newer version of TIS than I have on another computer. https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/

Using that, physically digging around in the E46 wagon, and some more google searches, and it appears that the MS43 in the 2001 325iT and MS45 in the 2002 M3 donor are different.

So, there is the answer to "what are you working on", and some insight as to what I will be looking at. Seems I am swimming in a bowl of soup others have been in before me !!

Yeah, funny how Bentley doesn't show the difference between the years, like they did in the E-36 manual. I have an old Win-XP offline laptop that I still have WDS on and it works pretty good just for that application. I also used it for coding and other things, just really slow at starting up is all.

On my cell phone now. I got it resolved. Find my post on E46 fanatics. Lots of back and forth, but the resolution is in my last post. That said, earlier in the thread is a link to newTIS.info. NOT the easiest thing to use. One can load their VIN (like in REALOEM) and that makes the internal links more accurate. BE CAREFUL, as one can get lost, confused, and sometimes mislead as the specific info may not be 100% spot on. Go slowly and it will be helpful.
