Blower Fan Resistor / FSU Replacement Recommendations

Its Summer and my AC keeps going off, I suspect the usual FSU, happens specially when I brake, so maybe its come a bit lose? anyway, I would be doing some work on it and figure might as well have a spare when I go in there.

Anybody got any recommendations? How are the ebay ones and the china ones listed quite cheap compared to OEM, are those total junk or do folk actually use them? looking for a FSU thats decent and works fine.

    EBay ones are junk.
You mean your blower motor stops working intermittently ? Not your AC.

Yea, the motor stops working (blowing air through the vents) intermittently sometimes as I am driving, other times when I brake, gotten worse and worse. IIRC, I suspect either a lose connection to the motor, the motor going bad or the FSU. First rather figure out if its the FSU or the Motor or a lose connection.

Any sources for well priced ones that aren't junk (both motor and fsu)?

    Suggestions welcome.

Confirmed - Went for a drive today, it goes off when going uphill or a corner type of deal and when driving over speed bumps.

Likely Motor I imagine? Good place for motors?

help us to help you. Use the VIN and realoem and find the original part number of the blower motor and post it here.

Bosch, Hella, DASIS, , VEMO = premium quality
the cheaper ones TOPRAN, JP Group, Metzger, Thermotec, Aic, Trucktec, Maxgear, NRF, BÖLK

they all produce/sell them. There are plenty on Ebay

or used from Christchurch, NZ https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car...ec58c4d0c3cc53

new Heater Blower Resistor for BMW 3 Series E36 from Manukau City, Auckland, NZ https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car...ec58c4d0c3cc53

just search a bit and you find it all in New Zealand

I have used Topran stuff before, not bad, even today, fan was blowing fine until it just turned off, I think the FSU is faulty. I messaged a local NZ Supplier whom I use, but still haven't heard back. Other wise maybe better to buy elsewhere than NZ, most parts are overpriced ripoff here mostly.

    Update:

After looking around locally, I just had my UK Supplier send the parts in for me. Its Hella.
Works out many many times cheaper than whats here in backwater thats NZ.

Another sympton I noticed is the blower works great in cold weather, so maybe its the FSU after all. Who knows, I will see when I replace it.

I didn't want to go with China, for obvious reasons, specially now that some of you confirm my suspicions.

Well, my supplier who I've been using for a few years now, is doing the Hella for around GBP 29 to me, which works out about $60 NZD. Not bad. Also since I was having some other parts sent from them to me so thought I might as well. A little delay sent via regular airmail (usually around 10-14 days) but I already wasted a week waiting for the local NZ Supplier to get back to me.

Will update thread if it fixes my problem. Fingers Crossed.

Hi all, just replaced my FSU, Heater Blower Motor Resistor for my E39. I could not find the resistor pin values so I compared my faulty one to the new one, which worked.

    the good resistor had,
    short between pins 2-4
    150K ohms between pins 3-5
    23K ohms between pins 1-5
    all others should be o/c.

    see pic for pin locations.

I wanted to update this myself, the blower fan resistor thing did indeed fix my problem as well. Getting to it is the hard part as you have to take off a few things.

Came across this old thread today because last January I opted for an ACM branded blower motor resistor (64-11-6-929-540); and now less than a year later it is failing. I bought from FCPEuro, so I can use their lifetime replacement warranty. If however the replacement fails, I will be searching for a new brand. Probably Vemo or Febi-Bilstein. I see URO also offers that part; anyone try that brand of blower motor resistor?
