I was perplexed why my new car (2007 530xi) wasn't chirping when I locked/unlocked the doors. All my previous cars did this, so I found it odd. Did a bunch of research and concluded the following:

1) I have it set for acoustic confirmation in iDrive settings
2) I have the factory installed alarm system (checked the VIN# to verify the option)

One oddity which *might* be related - if the hood is open, I get no indication that it is. No warning sound, no indicator light, etc. I could drive all day with the hood open and not know it. This shouldn't be the case, right?

I checked the hood switch with a multimeter and it operates properly. I tried shorting out the connector to simulate a hood-open condition and still nothing.

The trunk and door switches all work ok and display an indicator if open.

Any ideas?
