Replaced OEM center support bearing with a non-oem unit. If I keep this washer/bearing flange thing on, it presses the bearing housing and keeps it from turning freely.
Also, I noticed my drivewhaft was different than most E36 M3 center driveshafts. Mine didn't have a collar to unscrew; it separated with a bolt through the center.

I just finished the same thing. Mine was mangled by the time I got the bearing off so I left it off. No results yet but I think it is just a dust shield. Good luck. I didn't finish tonight, I snapped off most of the header studs pulling the exhaust out and was making to much noise beating them out for 2 am.
you should install that dust shield disc if you can. When I replaced my csb (preventive maintenance), the dust shield went on with no problems. I also had the 6 bolt driveshaft with the bolt in the middle.
