So my 2008 535ix I had an issue after the car sat a while. I tried to start the car and no go. I look where the ECU is and there was moisture, enough that it caused one of the posts to come off. So.. I bought a used replacement ECU. Installed it and still no go.
Do I need to code or program in the replacement ECU to make it work and run the car? I assume it will need to be programmed in or what not.
PLEASE HELP!?!?
ECU are tied to car. Try 5series dot net for E60 tech. It’s where I go.
Did you check modules in the trunk — some of these cars suffer clogged sunroof drains that leave water in trunk and shorts electronics located there.
Tow it to an independent shop have them dx it, best money you will ever spend
You cannot swap DME's between cars, if that's the "ECU" you're talking about.

This is 100% false.
You can reprogram a used MSD8x to match your original CAS and Key with the right programming tools. Stealership tools will not do what the OP is looking for.
Contact ECUdoctors.com they can help in that regard. They are also local to you in Oakland Park.
That's what I was getting at. Without the proper tools, it's not possible. Dealerships cannot do it. And an independent will have to have some pretty specific software to do it. I know several independent shops around here, and they only have dealer level software and cannot do it.
