Hi there, my central lock is working fine using the key. There was no remote locking installed as standard. I want to retrofit an aftermarket unit.
Is it as simple as picking up the lock signal from one of the doors and teeing off that output to the new module and allowing the factory central lock unit do the rest?

Thanks for that. I have that printed out already. I was just looking for confirmation.
Hi there, I went ahead with this mod as described above. Write up was a big help. Worked out well apart from the drivers door, which fails to lock remotely but will unlock ok.
Lock actuator activates, lock judders but fails to lock. Cannot lock either using internal lock button on door. I can lock with key and all 4 doors and boot unlock remotely.
I removed lock last night. It moves nice and freely and works as expected. I removed actuator.
With actuator removed I can lock and unlock with up and down button. Moves freely. All linkages on mechanism appear solid and without any major signs of wear.
Actuator moves in and out freely when unattached. However when reattached it doesn't create enough movement to move the lock. It moves to the full extent of its movement and then backs off 2 or 3 mm. If I hold the lock mechanism it stays locked.
Also, when the actuator is attached it stops the movement of the up and down locking button. I could dismantle the passenger door to observe the operation. Is the actuator the problem ?
looking for input from someone who has been there before.
Car is 1987 730i manual.
Thanks in advance.
