Good evening forum
I am planning on purchase of a 550i at a dealership in another state and driving home. I would like to take it to the local BMW dealership but quoted two prices for pre purchase inspection and wondered if these sound correct?
1st is basic which costs $170
2nd is all inclusive 8 hours and quote is $1200
Of course at this juncture $1200 is steep but not sure if I should pull the trigger and get the latter?
What does the 'basic' one consist of? $170 sounds quite reasonable. $1200/8 hours seems a little steep at $150/hr but not unreasonable IMO.

I don't know what they would do for $1200.00 but it would not be enough, that's nuts.
When I got my pre purchased inspection at the BMW dealership, they just hook the 550ix to a computer and it generated a printout. The mechanic did look at the undercarriage and the suspension, brakes which was extra $140. Total costs was $180 + $140 or $320. I did not buy the car and felt it was worth it to me.
8 hours for a prepurchase inspection? Good lord, what are they doing??? Rebuilding the car?
