    1999 328i misfire

So I've been working this 328i that's been a pain . The codes that I'm getting are p1188 and p1189,
Fuel trim bank 1 & fuel trim bank 2 fuel exceeded
    Misfire cylinders. 3,5,6.

I've already changed coil packs & spark plugs & fuel injectors.

I've checked the cab hoses for cracks, nothing there. I've did a comparison test all cylinders are good.

    I have two questions.

    1. When I unplug the maf sensor is the engine suppose to stop running, because the sensor is good. When I unplug mine the engine still runs, and it's kinda hard to tell Whether or not tge sensor is affecting because its misfiring.

    2. There's a exhaust leak from the gaskets , and kinda of think the o2 sensors are bad because t he code came once or twice .

Where should I start before I just start throwing parts at it . And we all know those German parts can get expensive.

Unplugging the MAF forces the engine computer (DME) into the open loop mode. The DME uses an overly rich fuel/air mix in this mode. This is the same mode whether DME uses when a cold engine is started. The DME does this to get the cats up to temperature quickly. Also, unplugging the MAF masks vacuum leaks.

Musfires can be caused sed by a myriad of issues. You need to check the fuel pressure. It needs to be at least 50psi. Item #18 in the link is the cap to the test valve.

plrase stop throwing parts at the problem. Doing so wastes money, doesn’t fix the problem and it angers the BMW goddesses.
