I need one of these bad. one of the plastic tabs on the back of mine broke where the bowden cable clips so I can't control my vent flaps. If you have one let me know your price plus shipping! It's cold and I'm getting desperate!need this part.JPG
how do you remove that thing?
I don't recall it being that difficult. But you have to be careful. I do remember that. I wasn't careful removing the clip for the bowden cable on the flap control side and I broke mine....
Ergo why I am here begging for one lol Can buy the older ones all day long on ebay. but not these parentyl!

I took my whole heater box out to rebuild. I seem to recall having to take out the center console and take out some screws.
If nothing shows up, I have made the system "work" in my car. I just twist the floor vent around on the drivers side. It adjusts the vent positions to defrost and whatnot. I have the fresh air setting ziptied off so only the heater and air conditioning works.
I think it got wasted during the removal process.

The plastic is cracked where the metal clip is attached. Metal clip attached to the plastic is what secures the cable housing. It broke when I took the three screws out then tried to pull the panel forward. The cable was pulling back, resisting the panel coming out, metal clip popped off cracking the plastic in the process.
mine broke also, i just reach down to the floor vent and you can control it tat way for the time
Yeah I had something rigged up with a screw and a metla band I mean the objective is to just hold the bowden cable sheath from moving and anchor it to the plastic dash part.
In other news I called bavarian auto recycling today and the guy said they had gone out of business? And did all cars now or something? This was news to me! THis is what I get for parking the BMW for a year or so to do a motorcycle project!
I coudl have bought this dash part at the dealer two years ago. But did not. Now it is unobtainium. I regret that now.
everything has a price: https://www.wallothnesch.com/en/heat...-64-10-02.html

Exactly. Zipties securing the cable housing in one or more places will do it.
You need to disconnect the cables from the far end, before trying to pull it out. If I had done that it wouldn't have broken.
I’ve got this one I will let go. Missing the cable for the fan.

Just did this on my 82. Total pain. My solution to the broken clip(s) was to thread a very small, thin hose clamp through the hole in the structure and clamp the cable that way. Works fine on the the all three cables. Only one clip was broken, I broke the second by not releasing it at the far end, and I did the 3rd one just because I didn't want to struggle with this ever again.

Got mine working for the winter but not permanently. First job I'll do when the nice weather hits will be to secure the cable housing with clamps or wire ties like you did. (now we all know better about how to remove these units)
Lovely. I place the thread asking and somebody else snarps it up before I can respond. What a great bunch of people here I tell yah. Cuthroats. Well if anybody has one they want to sell PM me please. I offer top dollar. And need one desperately. And to whoever bought it a three finger salute!

I didn't buy it but three days passed before you responded. Just sayin'.
Common courtesy! It's kind of like waiting in line at the store or opening the door for somebody. You don't have to, but its generally expected behavior. I wouldn't swoop into somebody else's WTB thread and snarf up something before they had a chance to make an offer. I have a job and a family and don't have time to watch this board 24x7. And it didn't notify me. It;s irritating but no skin off my teeth. Karma catches up with people. Just sayin.
I sold it to someone on FaceBook.
ops. Well I feel dumb now! I guess I owe everybody an apology! Opened my mouth too soon!
Thank you for the ziptie trick. Drilled a hole thru plastic underneath where clip broke plastic and ziptied bowden cable sheath to housing. *Note* with the 45 degree plastic, a hole must be drilled to keep cable and ziptie from riding off. I've looped the cable with a lot of tension on ziptie connection and moved cable thru sheath several times. That cable isn't going anywhere. Hope this helps out bimmer peeps.
