Car doors will not close when cold outside

    Hi Everyone,

I am having a issue its reoccurring of course but my car doors will not close when its winter. I have to close them repeatedly just for them to finally latch. This only happens when its cold outside. I tried warming up the car to see if this will help but its still a problem in the early mornings. Please any suggestions I am willing to take at this time for my Besty.

Yeah, it’s cold. I’m about 20 miles north of you in Arlington. Luckily, Gerhardt sleeps in an underground garage where the temp doesn’t get below 40 degrees.

What year and model of BMW do you own? Have you tried to lube the rubber seals with Gummi Phlege or other product?

I use a product recommended as a substitute for G-P, Dow Corning #4

Dow Corning 4 Electrical Insulating Compound is a grease like silicone that is used to make moisture resistant seals for electrical, automotive, aircraft, and marine assemblies. It can also be used to lubricate and seal o-rings, switches, door seals, cable connectors, and battery terminals. It is odorless, has high dielectric strength, good chemical stability and thermal oxidation.

If the actual metal door latch is sticking, then I recommend a silicone spray.
