Does your friend know that there are plenty of E36 M3s in the market that aren't rust buckets? Why does he have to have this one car?

^Exactly! These things are not rare or even particularly special. Just find another one that's in better condition and buy it.

I told that moron. He wouldn't listen. He is just a moron. He wants this one because he bonded with it regardless of the cluster being rolled back. If I did the math right it would have 227k miles right now not 188k. The cluster was swapped out "TWICE" however it was a well modded M3.

    Turner chip
Supersprint headers (maybe could be wrong)
    Rough engineering short shifter
Aftermarket clutch +( JB racing flywheel included with sale plus 4 big boxes worth of parts included from sale)
Bilstein shocks and springs all 4 corners
    Halos with DJ lense
    Vilante steering wheel

I told him he wouldn't buy any other M3 than that. He traded the M3 for a 540i Sport auto 02 that hasn't had timing chain guides done. That's what happens when he doesn't listen to me. Then traded that car for an 05 325xi/5 that has been a mechanical nightmare just like the 540. I've told him many times changing cars often isn't a good thing. He even bought another cosmos m3 but sold that recently cause he according to him that car was nothing like his old one.

He is an idiot. Spent $1,900 on the e46 in 1 month of ownership. On the 540 he spent $2,500. If he spent half what he spent on both the cars combined the M3 would've been perfect. Everytime he rides with me on the M3 I make sure I remind him how big of an idiot he is

Well that's totally wrong. You mentioned it had rusty rockers and a baseball-sized hole in the footwell. It would have still been a rusted-out, compromised chassis. It's almost certainly in worse condition today. Your buddy needs to look at things logically and buy a half decent car as a starting point if he wants to feel good about an M3. There's no sense in getting sentimental about a complete rust bucket. It sounds like he's really young. I say that because I used to have silly ideas exactly like him, 30 years ago when owning cars was a relatively new thing for me... lol.

He's 20 and yeah I agree. Hopefully he can give up the idea of owning that car after reading this post.

It was mechanically great even for having 228k miles. When my friend got the car it was in bits and pieces. The car was going to end up being a drift car but he saved it and let it live. He gave the car another life to live. And then he got rid of it

My 99 M3 sits in the garage, covered at 61k miles, Battery Tender doing it's job and with a fresh oil change. I'll have to take it out in a few months for the safety inspection.

I enjoy my car everyday. It's a car meant to be driven but then again I'm taking all the precautions the under panel is rust proofed

I get the 'meant to be driven' thing, but I've got other cars that are meant to be driven too. Priorities, my man.

My m3 is my dream car and it's my only car. I'm also 17 so I am forced to drive it which is a sheer pleasure everyday. Don't worry she is garaged. Momma loves to have her brown friends over majority of the time

90% of the brown people love getting mini vans. However it's different in our family. The M3 was parked outside while it was snowing because the my mom's friends blocked the the garage door.

Yeah mine will never be sold. It will just continue to evolve more into a toy as a drive it less on the street.

That's what I plan on doing to mine. Dailying it this year until I can afford a cheap honda for next year to drive to college and park the M3 home. Buying this car all my own at 17 is something I'm really proud off
