Hey guys! Yesterday I finally got my hands on a good deal after half-assed searching for a good long time: 2009 328i with 43k miles. Went for a good long cruise, and I quite like it. Obviously, my next question is for a few basic tune items. I'm thinking an ECU flash, intake and exhaust should be plenty. I just want a touch more punch, and a bit more noise. (Quietest vehicle I've ever owned, and it's unnerving.)
I've seen tons and tons of products that look good, and I was just wondering what you guys have that you like?
Also, what's a good, trustworthy dealer for some little trim pieces? I've got a few plastic bits that are sub-par I'd like to replace.
The 328i is a great car, sounds like you got a good one. As far as tunes go, check out the 3-stage intake manifold. Basically you put a 330i manifold on the car and tune for it to gain 20-30hp. An N54 intake manifold is another option, though I'm not sure which delivers better performance. Bimmer Performance Center in Raleigh, NC is your best bet for tuning. They are absolutely top notch, and they developed some serious tunes for the n52. I'm pretty sure they have a handheld flash tuner, though tuning on their dyno would be best. They have some n52 cars pushing 245+whp with intake, cat-less headers, and exhaust. They are the best in the business.
The 328i can sound pretty awesome, I'm a little jealous to be honest. I've heard an e91 that had a Remus exhaust, it sounded perfect in my opinion. Great burble and overrun, fantastic sound without being obnoxious, and no drone or rasp. I'm sure there are cheaper options that sound great though.
Thanks, I'll look into those.
So, after reading into the three stage intakes, sounds good, but I could find very little information on the best tune for one. Most of the threads were several years old. Is there anything new?
BPC seems to have the best tune for the 3 stage intake manifold. You might check with them to see what results they are getting with the n54 intake though. They have a pretty cool facebook page too.
My 328i got the three stage manifold, euro airbox, and active headers. With the tune they are saying they are going to get it to pull 255-260 on the dyno no problem. I left it quiet. standard exhaust with a cat delete is still eons better than no headers and cat back. I will believe it when I see it but just as everyone says you can feel the disa valves working and with the headers it is already early 335i fast now. Torque is a different story. It is a totally different animal now. Only had it back a day and it is literally amazing the difference. Used Turner Motorsports for the tune, Active Autowerke for the headers and ebay for box and manifold. 3 stage manigold from a 530i is the same and often much cheaper. You just take off the oil separator and cap the hose. 328i has internal oil separator in valve cover so don't need it -Runner valves last a long time, it is ok if they are used as long as they work.

I'm definitely going to put a full exhaust on mine, if nothing else. It's too quiet! I don't want obnoxious noise, but I need some growl.
If you put box, manifold, headers and a cat delete all the exhaust will do is make it louder and maybe add a few hp because of weight reduction. If you don't do the headers get a full back, like a supersprint system you will see a little more gain. my engine compartment is basically done unless it boosts some time in the future, but I dig NA power so it is fine for now. Full Back with resonator delete is just going to make it sound like something it is not. I would leave it quiet or get stock performance exhaust. If it was a 335i, I would make it quieter and port two of the pipes out the wheel. I am all about power and speed, the quieter the better as long as it doesn't inhibit power. It's all about the fucking, and not the porno for me. let someone else make the movie and record the soundtrack while I am pulling away.
Try Active Autowerke Flash Tune

Haha, I can tell you're totally not biased at all.
Good point!
