Trunk not unlocked when doors are unlocked.

    Problem
Earlier when I unlock the doors using the remote , I was able to open the trunk using the latch above the license plate. For past few days, I am not sure what changed but trunk does not get unlocked when I unlock the doors. I have to specifically press the 'trunk' open button on remote to unlock/open my trunk.
    - Is there a specific setting to enable trunk to be unlocked whenever I unlock the doors.?
    - Is there a manual switch/latch that driver can use to unlock the trunk sitting in driver's position.
    My car : 2003 325xi AWD.
    Thanks
    Gana

Maybe the trunk lock cylinder is in the valet position. That will disable the trunk switch on the trunk lid and the one on the drivers kick panel. If that's not the problem, check for broken wires in the harness from the trunk lid to the body.

Where can I find this trunk lock cylinder and the valet and non valet position? I do not have the original manual and don't know even if that shows this lock cylinder

The lock is located to the right of the license plate. I believe the lock is in valet position when the key hole is horizontal.

    Additional information

One thing that happened with my 330 was that when using the remote all locks operated sporadically. This was after replacing the passenger door actuator. Reading here I saw people having problems like mine and solving them by putting their remote on top of their electric toothbrush charger. It uses the same induction charging as our remotes. I put it on the charger over night about once a week and have never experienced a remote problem since. I don't drive much and apparently I wasn't driving enough to charge up the remote. It sounded crazy, but what the hell. What did I have to lose? It seems to have worked.
I have a Phillips sonic care.

The cause could be a problem with the general module 5 (GM5). It has relays for the locks and other electrical systems. Google “bmwgm5.”
