This is an X3-F25 3.5i with 75k miles and the left tailgate LED strips (same unit as the back-up light) go out periodically and at best are dimmed. Under CPO warranty, but the fine print won't cover "tailgate lighting", go figure. Only dealer option is replace at $250+. Must be a wiring or control board correction somewhere, bulbs are clearly not the problem.... What thoughts or experience? John in Boulder, CO
This area is prone to road spray and the accompanying connection failures. It should be under your extended warranty, but if not, if you can diy, disassemble and clean and inspect the light connections. Good luck.

This is apparently not a bulb problem after all, but a contact problem.... Pulled both of the connector plugs out of the assembly and sprayed the contacts on both in and out with electronic contact cleaner, worked them back and forth, and all lights came back to life perfectly. Shameful that dealership service writers wouldn't have a clue about this. Will pass the word on.... but then again they are into selling parts not service.
And Thanks for your reply Dano.... you were right on!!
