Just finished last night replacing the instrument cluster LCD screen and new ribbon cable from Pixel Fix. A very complete kit but his videos need a little bit more information for the ones that are doing this the very first time. I was very nervously opening the cluster and removing the needles hoping I didn't mess anything up. Finished at almost 11 so I'll plug it and confirm that is OK today. Fingers crossed!
Oh, and last Sunday I was closing everything up after doing the TCG's and after doing the two crank revolutions to confirm timing, the bank 1 intake is out of place so I'm re-installing timing tools this weekend and readjusting everything. Then to finish installing the radiator hoses, radiator and shroud, put liquids in it and bring it back to life! (without the dreaded TCG noises!)

Damn how I miss the simplicity of E38, need to flush transmission oil, okay 30min, something else ok not a problem...
I have been changing yesterday 7.5hours, transmission oil and sump on Discovery 3
It's nice that body cross members are built that way, that filter just cant squize through.. and the neck can't get out.... Well after a lot of googling and searching, had to remove engine mount and transmission mount and raise the engine by +-10cm. All that took me 7 hours + cleaning the mess I have done.
Today the girl who bought seven from me, texted me that airbag light and also engine oil pressure light was on, seems like the car doesn't like her.
Never had any warning light past 2-3years, except valley pan coolant leak.

It’s the stupid integrated trans filter/plastic oil pan combo with the D3’s and D4’s. The workaround that most do is to cut the filter pickup tube so pan can be removed without jacking up the engine for clearance. Then the typical one-piece pan/Filter is replaced with a steel oil pan and separate filter. This will make all future trans service simple.
I am lucky that our full size RR S/C does not have the crossmember interference that the Disco’s have.

I dont know whether you are done yet, but that speaker shelf cover thing has an odd angle on the top rear corners that I had trouble with (on your pic its the corner touching the green plants), I was using suede and it doesnt stretch well, but due to the location it didnt really matter cause no one can see it. So do a test fit, before apply your glue.

Today I washed the Dinan & applied some black magic to the flat trim around the windows. I also cleaned the windows inside and out with a razor blade after I'd removed tint from the dual pane glass' donor. I vacuumed the interior and wiped everything down. The 750 interior was also vacuumed and I reset the vent/charge port on the console rear. Is there any way to make these not pop out so easy? I've been converting the interior to black and tan. I had a gray/black 2001 740iL awhile back and missed the black. So, I'm going back that route using RVA's as a template, only Im sticking with "sand". I found the interior bits I needed and am going to pick them up Saturday. (black upper dash, carpet, entry trims, door felts) This will get me about 85% done. I'll have to reach out to my local Fibernew rep to knock out the door carpet bottoms and portion north of the wood trim. The headliner, ABC & rear deck were finished a few months back! This week after work I plan to remove the old carpet and dash so that leg work will be done when I return with the goods Saturday evening. Sunday it'll be install time. #dumpsterliner
I'm looking for a tan driver side handle if anybody has one. (the handle portion that detaches from the door panel)

Cruised up to VIR with my old man over the weekend, the folks at Quantum Speed Works are great. I went to get some interior bits Id needed and it
worked out great. Today I tossed out the old beige carpet and dash and went with black. So, in effect Im going to Black and Sand. Looks great so far, I'd been picturing it in my mind for almost 2 years and finally found a parts car.

Don's E38 2.jpgFinally found a sibling for the sled...'01, 66k miles, Schwarz over Sand Biege. 500 mile ride home was a dreamsicle.
Nearly perfect, rear speakers and console ashtray door edgy, no cargo net...otherwise spicy sweet.

Finally finished the complete suspension refresh. All new bushings, control arms, shocks and struts. I cannot remember the last time this car rode so well! Its like a new car again.
Dropped pan, cleaned out OSV (that didn't need it) and replaced CCV (that also didn't need it). All to find out it might have been the Sucking Jet pump all along.
On plus side, oil pan was totally clean. No timing chain guide pieces. So that's good.
On down side, if it wasn't the SJP, I have no idea why I'm smoking so bad. Unless I just have a broken neck at the top of the OSV. Course no easy way to tell.
The SJP is in question because when I grabbed the line to remove it from the CCV it was apart. (Story in my tread about Smoking saga). I have no way of knowing if it was apart BEFORE I grabbed the line or not. I didn't notice, and it's covered by the engine cover so you can't see it normally.
Fixed the SJP with liberal amounts of JB Weld this time. But ordered a new one anyway. Fingers crossed.

Got through the sand-black swap, ditched the sand-beige. Have to find an underdash for driver side in tan, and get the door panel
beige part dyed black along with the carpet on the door. After that, nothing left but the slider on the sunroof to have covered.
Very happy with the results, I'd been picturing it in my head for 2 years, finally found a parts car
that was within reach and a bargain. I paid $170 for full carpet, B pillars, black kick plates, black door
felts and the dashboard.
Of course, now I have to buy black floor mats. Any recommendations aside from BMW? Not a fan of the
way they fall apart with the foam backing and whatnot.
