^Jamos,
the C Pilars on my DINAN are trash. I got replacements at the local JY. However, the replacements are the usual fleet material, and the DINAN is a more modern material, like a fine checkered gray cloth. If I peeled off the felt, would I be able to peel off the newer material and re glue to the good Pilar’s without damaging or stretching the fabric? Have never done this type of work.

On DINAN
1. New chain tensioner, no more rattle at start up
2. Replaced rear tires with 275/40/18. The PO had the usual staggered MPars but he had all tires in 235/50 size, must have got a good deal. Looks better now and seems to ride smoother.
On iL
Removed the Alpina lip to install on the DINAN, the iL may be destined for a part out

Kouks, yeah for sure! The c pillars are pretty easy, the only tricky spot is the top corner than faces the front of the car - just peel off the old material, use a nylon bristle brush to remove the old glue (I used a drill brush) and reveal the black underlayment. Basically just cut a square big enough to cover the c pillar, apply some fabric glue (I use permatex heavy duty, it's by far the best I've used) let it soak in for 10-20 seconds, then spray another coat on top of that from about 15-20" away and it really covers nicely, then lay the cloth over top from bottom to top or whatever way you're comfortable with, then start trimming it away. There are 101 ways to do this, but that's the way I've found that produces quality parts every single time. If you try to cut it to shape first, and mess up on applying it, the whole piece is ruined.
Again, the black underlayment will show exactly how to cut your material once it's on there (wrap the top over, bring the front face over the top and down) - very VERY straight forward once it's in your hand.
Scatter brained and I don't want to even dare read what I've just wrote hahah

Serviced the ac this morning. It was taking 4-5 miles at 65 to cool down, and at idle the aux fan would cut in/out and the output was noticeably warmer.
Recovered just short of 16 ounces of refrigerant. Pulled a hour long vacuum to 400 microns, charged 24 ounces of R134A and an oil charge (which has
2 ounces of R134A as a carrier). Running in 'max' at idle doors open, the system settled to 45 psi on the low side, 245 psi on the high. Aux fan was varying
between full blast and somewhere in the midrange. Used the garden hose on 'jet', rinsed the condenser off as well as could be done without disassembling the
bumper and aux fan. Full cleaning of the condenser and radiator saved for a later date.
Road test achieved 42 degree air exiting the center vents with ambient temps at 88, high humidity.
On return and idling, the compressor was much quieter, no droning whine. The sled is happy.
^I have a droning whine when the AC is on, I'll need to recharge and do the oil thing too.
Aquilla told me that Arm and Hammer toothpaste works wonders at cleaning old plastic light covers. So today I tried it on my yellowing rear clears on the DINAN, and sure enough, all the yellow is gone. Then I used Meguire's Plastix Polish and got a nice clear lights.
Also tried it on my son's e39 front plastic headlight covers and worked pretty well there too.

Well I guess the cooling system would get me sooner or later. I was on the track and the upper hose blew off the water pump. The worst part was driving back to the pit knowing that there might be no water left. After I got parked I saw what had happened and was sure the water was pumped out in about three seconds. I track buddy gave me a ride to the autoparts store and I picked up some coolant and hose clamps. I put the bandage on and used Timm's method for filling and to my surprise the car started and ran just fine. It did have several hours to cool down and I started it a few times to make sure the pistons did not burn into the cylinders.
Back at home I got new upper and lower hoses and because my water pump sounded like a bucket of bolts that got replaced as well. So here comes my BMW complaint. So you have one hose, It has a fixed clamp on each end, a plastic fitting and an O'Ring. That's seven possible failure points. A normal car has a hose and two clamps. That makes three, WTF? I looked at a Zionville and they have the same lame connections.
Okay I'm done. It is still a great car to drive. At least it was a simple mechanical fix instead of all the mystery software and sensor crap.

Still trying to find money in the meager budget to get the trans fixed...
DINAN 7: Replaced spark plugs, and found three of the plug shafts with plenty of oil, so VCGs are next. Gives me a chance to repaint the VCs.
iL: Collected more dirt sitting in the driveway.

Went for a little drive, washed it up and checked engine bay for leaks and etc, topped a little p.s oil
Have to take off my flexible lip and put it back, as it is rubbing always on every bump, it moves and shows those ugly brown lines.

I'm quickly becoming a BMW fanatic, have a 2001 740i with almost 200,000 miles. I've been doing a lot of work on it lately, timing chain guides, PS hoses, engine mounts, complete front end replacement, a/c and p/s pulleys, misc. Anyway, looked up "Pilars" and JY finally kicked in. Nice car. Just saw the 675 H.P. Dinan M5. What makes your car a Dinan? (Upgrades?) Forgot to mention the plugs and VCG and powder blasted and painted the covers.

Kouks: Have the same whine on my AC; have you learned what it is yet? I have the perfect chance to replace the belt pulley wheel if it's that, has a little noise/chafing while turning it.

Sweet ride. My "rich" Uncle used to say, "wonder what the poor people are doing today", as he cleaned his very large yacht; always wondered why he didn't have someone other than his niece doing it with him?
Well, the engine still ticks. Pretty noisy outside. Quiet inside. Drove 425 miles flawlessly. Comfortable as hell. Tires had been slightly scallopped on the outside edge but after some new guide links and four wheel alignment they seem to have flattened out. Doesn’t really matter because by the end of this summer they’ll be toast anyway.
Did a machined polish, for the first time.
To remove swirl marks.
Photo quality are bad, as hard to get what I was trying to photo.
On first photo, there is swirls, and on the second one, they are almost all gone.

Yes, DINAN is a company that re-chips and ads mods to the drivetrain for increased power. Mine does not have 675hp for sure, but just by feel, I’m guessing mine is upgraded from the 289hp engine to about a 340hp engine, plus the trans shifts are adjusted to make the car feel more zippy. The car drives like a normal 740i or iL when I want to drive normal, however, when I mash it down it comes to life and even surprises me with acceleration. The mods are on top of a Sport drivetrain on this 740i. They include a Cold Air Intake, an intake manifold from an M60 engine, which is the predecessor to the M62 in most e38s and has larger air chambers, an engine and trans re-chip, and a modified exhaust. Basically, the mods are made to increase mass flow through the engine, thus more power.

If the whine only exists when the AC is on, then it’s most likely the compressor. I’ve been told to ad oil to the AC fluid and it will go away. That’s a job for professionals.
If it whines all all the time, then you probably have a pulley problem.

Ordered new springs for the seven... Current drop is too much for the roads that we are driving. So 45/35 drop changes to 30/20.
Getting old, eh?
