Thanks, I've looked at using that shaft but I'm waiting to see what the my fabricator thinks.https://vorshlag-store.com/collectio...shaft-assembly

Also decided while the front end is apart I would replace the hubs as a PM thing.

Can you make a post about your 996 calipers when you get it all together., and what you think about the feel of it. I've been thinking about doing this.

Sure but winter will have to end first! We've have about 10" of the white stuff over the last couple days. Can you make a post about your 996 calipers when you get it all together., and what you think about the feel of it. I've been thinking about doing this.
So here are a few shots of the initial fitting of this beast! you can see how it really fills the engine bay, but surprisingly its not to bad for access. With the exhaust removed this engine is about 27" wide, evening getting to the exhaust bolts isn't bad due to how low they are on the engine. The ABS unit had to be relocated as the brake lines were touching the valve cover, so to get the engine all the way back I had to unbolt it and push is over. luckily there is plenty of room just under the brake booster.

Since I wanted to keep the original feel of the car the SMG trans was not kept and a 6 speed manual trans was acquired, this also meant a new flywheel and twin disc clutch were needed.

BC represent. this is amazing.
You know it!!!BC represent. this is amazing.
Are you on BC bimmers?
Great build! This will be a wild ride. I have an E90M3 and think the motor would be fun in a car that weighs 25% less.
Thanks, I did consider using the S65, maybe I'll use one for the next project The manual trans I purchased for this came from a wrecked E90M3 with only 18,600 miles on it. The seller also included the flywheel/clutch and the cooler lines in the deal, unfortunately I couldn't use any of those pieces.Great build! This will be a wild ride. V10 is 25% better!
An update on the progress. The headers are coming along well but slow... they are more challenging than my guy figured! I'll post some photos soon. The RallyRoad caliper brackets and brake lines arrived last week, thanks Eric!

Well here's a shot of the headers out of the car, they just need the v-bands welded on and off to get ceramic coated. These took 60+ hrs and were a pia to build. Sorry about the crappy pic I'll get better ones when I get the car back.

Here are some better photos of the headers.

Due to the limited room the steering shaft is routed through the header. Because of the heat I felt the aluminum shaft would not fair well I opted for the Vorshlag steering shaft.

An update:
I picked up an updated oil pan with 2 drains (left), the early pans (Right) only had 1 drain plug where as the later ones have a drain added to the front.

Awesome build! This thing is going to rip!
Make sure to change the rod bearings while the motor is out!

Wowsers. Most epic swap ever. Shoe-horning all those runners around there, barely enough room to re-fit the heat shields!
Thanks!
Yes its a must on these engines, so this is what was done when it was out:
BE rod bearings + ARP rod bolts
New main bearings (#6 had failed)
New vanos hp line
Replaced every seal and gasket except for the head gaskets
Removed and cleaned the throttle bodies
Disassembled and cleaned main oil pump
Disassembled vanos oil pump and filter screen/vanos pump and crank gear were replaced with updated ones while the car was under warranty
Removed and inspected vanos filter screens
Replaced filter screen at the bedplate
Flushed both air boxes
It was challenging that's for sure!
This is amazing, my secret hope is that someone with a coupe buys our M6 V10 and enjoys the everloving crap out of it.
