    Shear Grinding Sound?

Recently I noticed a new, strange sound coming from what seems to be roughly the intake side of the engine bay on my 2003 M3.

At first I thought it could be a belt but they seem fine...Don’t know what to make of it...everything seems to (visually) be fine?

Any guesses where to start looking at?

    Here’s a video of the sound: https://youtu.be/geTn5ckgTTs

    Thanks for any suggestions!

Get a mechanics stethoscope at any auto parts and carefully place the probe on a non-moving part of the belt tensioners. My bet is you will spot the noise straight off.

Let us know what you find.

    How many miles?

You can also take off the belts to see if the noise remains. If the noise does remain, then I would start looking at things like VANOS.

Should probably mention if you take the belt off not to run it for longer than 30secs other wise you will overheat the engine...

I'd take the belt off and spin the pulleys with my hand one by one and find which it making the noise
