ZCS decoder won't give you the original ZCS, and you have to type in all the vehicle option codes to get a 'something'.. but it's not perfect.

Did you really lose both modules with GM SA VN?

Isn't it also printed on the back bench somewhere?

    I wish I knew.
    Yes unfortunately I did
I'm replacing the EWS for not communicating/ No start.
Unfortunately when I go to align the new one with the DME it indicates it's not coded. When trying to code it isn't able to pull any information from the instrument cluster (which also doesn't communicate but lights up and seems to be working fine)
So it asks me to input GM, SA, VN to code the module.
Doesn't help I'm using an ancient autologic because I do not have a icom- C only the 16 pin icom w/ista.
Also this is a 12/99 car. I don't think these came with the codes on a sticker like the predecessors.

    Any other suggestions?

I've called my local bmw but those guys aren't any help

I will have to look through some old files for zeko, but you need 32-bit windows of any sort to run it.

That car will work fine with INPA K+DCAN cable and 20-pin adapter, no ICOM needed. All modules are K-line.

Do you have PASoft 1.4? That is a bit of help in these situations too.

Well that information you gave me got me into the coding menu at least. When attempting to code the EWS I receive the following fault,
If there are any problems with the key recognition, ews coding will fail
    Key data : detected
    Random code: invalid
    Password: invalid
    Identification: invalid
    Coding will FAIL
And it does it returns with: coding error 15.50.1 - 1.162
Coding error 816 function failed please check that all key data is valid/correct

Still waiting for my inpa cable obviously because the holidays.
Again this is a new EWS I simply wish to program/code old key to and align with DME

Suggestions? Will this be possible with INPA? What is PAsoft you refer to?

    Thank you

Can you try to sync EWS first? (New EWS from dealer always requires an EWS-DME sync). Maybe that is blocking coding. You may need to make sure the VIN is written into it as well.

when attempting to align with dme it indicates ews need to be coded, takes me to coding menu where i must input your provided GM, SA, VN. after inputting it allows me to pick ews to code but that is where it subsequently fails because of faulty key recognition. i seem to be stuck in a vicious cycle.

ews wont code without key data, key data wont write to ews because dme isnt aligned, dme wont align because ews wont code. or something like that. argghhhhhhh!!!!

have a friend who will lend me the icom-c. thank goodness. one way or another this thing is getting programmed. will update shortly

The dealer should have already pre-programmed all the key data and ISN into it though...
Keys should be linked to EWS fine. That data cannot really be modified by any standard diagnostic tools.

ICOM should work, but K+DCAN with adapter will do the same, depending on programs.
I would attempt NCS Expert and see what it does with the EWS. Do you know how to use it?

Well the icom - c I barrowed unfortunately did not work because it could not aquire vehicle order from instrument cluster and demands an external media device loaded with vehicle order from bmw. I have purchased a computer preloaded with ncs expert and PA soft but still await the arrival of my 20 - 16 pin adapter cable. I haven't used the programs before but I will teach myself with time. I also see there are lots of user friendly guides on the forum here. Is there any further advice you can give for using these programs for the task at hand - programming/coding ews. Thank you so much for the help thus far.
