....and here she is reaching for my wallet again...
I was unaware there was a water main break on this road right near work shortly after I came through there northbound. The city tore up a lane-wide section of the southbound side and repaired it but half-ass filled the road back in. So...on the way home (heading South...), it's raining, sleeting, and dark, and all of a sudden I dropped into this big cutout area that was a couple inches deep. The nose slams into the ground. I came back by there the next morning to see what I hit. Man..it was an ugly repair...and deep. On top of that, I did verify my suspicions that the repair was completely unmarked !!! I'm totally po'd at this point, but what can you do. I did eventually speak to the city and might pursue trying to get reimbursed for that porkchop. It cracked the bumper cover pretty good down there, and the LCA's definitely took a beating but it's nearly $1200 retail for just the OEM unpainted m-tech bumper cover and that expensive ass fender liner, (parts only...) and I'm not trying to rake these guys.

I feel your pain. Someone cracked my mtech bumper in a parking garage. I bought a new one and it came back from paint on Friday. Fun use of $1000.
It doesn't matter, no matter what, no matter how well you keep up on the car, something always goes, something always leaks, something always breaks, these cars are always wanting. For me, it is totally a love/hate relationship, just like majority of the women I have shacked up with.... .
Set the controls for the heart of the sun
A decent autobody shop should have a "plastic welder" or "plastic stapler" unless your bumper cover is missing pieces, cracks should be easy fixes, even major ones.
If a shop is cool just making you pay $1000 for a new one when a repair would have been so much easier, less time and $ consuming... Next time, ask in here 1st and then find someone who cares about your car as much as you do or at least someone who respects the craft.
We all get jacked-up by shops but together, we can minimize the hurt for the next guy. That's the plan anyway.
Glad you got it fixed. That's crappy... Damn Seattle drivers.

Pics, or it didn't happen?! lol
Repairing the M bumpers is actually not hard at all. I've brought many back from the dead, repaired them for a few of my friends, they paid with beer and laughter.
Plastic weld, the special tools for plastic weld at the body shop gathered dust on the shelves, nobody used them, I can't stand them either, just more work, when all you have to do is to epoxy the cracks back together, I used to use Duramix, can't remember the number anymore, all you have to do is some reading to figure that out, you have to have the gun, and the mixing nozzles, a couple layers of 8oz fiberglass on the inside, bodywork and painting on the outside, good as new.
Before, or after the fights? The dirty ones, you're just gonna have to use your dirty imagination.Pics, or it didn't happen?! lol

It was better use of my time to have a new one painted rather than give my car to a shop for however long. The cracked one is definitely repairable - I'll sell it on Craigslist to recoup some of the overall cost.
I have been working 7 days a week for the last three months. The wagon is also my only car I'm willing to commute in (not driving the M3 to work). I have more money than time at the moment...
I'm jealous of both "more money than time" and option to drive the M3 to work.
I wasn't saying "you did it wrong" just next time.
I still have a bashed front and rear and because I'm waiting for the best time too so I totally understand your predicament except the more money that time statement. I've never had enough of either. lol
let me know if you're adopting... !! your new kid's gonna have a moustache and a bit of gray hair...lol...but I keep my room clean.
Just ribbin ya nauq...I completely understand those circumstances and the decisions. Hope you get a break soon...not from the money...oh hell no..., from those hours. Even when we're doing the stuff we love at that pace, it still takes a toll.
Sorry you're stuck driving the final iteration of the e39 sport, unique, niche market, tote the family in comfort, safety, and poise at Autobahn speeds, stationwagon instead of that highly sought after, iconic, legendary, oldass car from the 80's...well, the late 80's. ;0)
let me know on that adoption thing...

Winter is in Full Swing here in So*Cal
Broke my rear tail light that's on the trunk, when it was cold in here -10C and trunk froze, tried to open it and while pressing on the trunk I made a little pressure to the side of the tail light and it broke into million pieces.
Bought used one from a guy, but the LEDs were broken, after arguing with him, I decided to change the LEDs inside the light, took my old one that was broken, but it worked like new.
Opened it with a Dremel, and saw that the LEDs are easy to replace.
Took used one I bought and carefully opened it, replaced LEDs and vualaa.
Maybe a bit off topic but winter problems I was so pissed when the used tail light didn't work properly, but it's nice that I had fully working old one, just with broken plastic.
