My Stock Z3M Roady Not My Stock M5
My Z3M.jpg Not My M5.jpg
So, just like most BMW fan boys, I love the E39 M5. I've been meaning to put some Style 65 wheels on my car to pay homage for a LONG time but couldn't ever find an example. I did my own due diligence and bit the bullet. These are genuine BMW OEM wheels that have been sandblasted and powdercoated. I didn't think I would dig the black, but it's growing on me. I couldn't help but drive it today when I got them on. If you are looking for specs/calcs see below. If you have any questions feel free to ask. It came out okay. I posted some pictures below.

All that and not even a side pic to see how they look?
Here are some additional pictures... (photo limit above)

Tried this on my car a few years ago while I was having my roadstars refinished. Had aftermarket wheels on my M5, so I just bolted the stock M5 wheels on my M Roadster. I liked the look, but when I removed them a couple of weeks later, the front brake pad rattle clips had worn grooves on the inside back of spokes on the M5 wheels. If you have worn pads you might not have this. You could try spacers but I think the fronts may stick out of the fenders.

Doesn't look right to me.

Correct.
My pads are decently new, I checked and took some pictures but they didn't come out well. After reaching in it appears I have around a finger thickness of space between the back of the wheel and what you are talking about. Good looking out. When I replace pads I will check. So far I haven't had to do any modifications to the car up front.
If it's wrong, I don't want to be right. It might be because it's at stock height and it has stock m5 tires as well. They are a little meaty.

Ah, I see what you mean. I'm hoping when I play with suspension/camber/caster they'll come in a bit, but to each their own. At stock height with stock alignment the wheels protrude about 3mm in the front beyond the hood and about 2mm from the rear fender. Here's a slightly better pic.

Put a lower profile tire on them and I think I could like the look!

Here's the goal next year.

Here's some more recent pictures after rolling around and letting the suspension settle in with the hardtop.

I personally like a bit of poke, but things look pretty damn cozy up front there Chief. Some lower profile skins would be waay cheaper than a hood if you get interference at speed near full compression.
I'm purchasing new tires for the front this winter and am currently trying to decide b/n 225/40/18 & 235/40/18. Right now the outside of the tire rubs the liner at full lock with the 245/40/18 on inclines at the front on hard cornering... With the 275/35/18 in the rear it will affect geometry going with smaller than what I have. The 225/40 would decrease with sidewall about 8mm - effectively raking out the car but shifting more weight to the front. The other option would be gaining a little more width with the 235 and only decrease sidewall about 4mm (albeit it would be a little harder to find tires in this size). This way the tire wouldn't be as stretched.
Having a slight rake would be okay for front grip during corners, however it would affect the high speed stability like caster. I'm the least excited about going back to the smaller width in the front as I feel like these cars have a little under-steer if you don't apply pedal feedback in an emergency. I'm hoping the slight shift in weight would help with that. I know I'm overthinking things, but I really enjoy this stuff.
My stubborn option would be to swap the top hats and get a little bit more aggressive camber in the front.
Feel free to give your opinions.

Been driving around on the setup for about a year now... around 6k miles and no issues. I still haven't bought the smaller front tires like intended. The tires rubbed a little of the fender liner as expected but haven't had any major issues with fitment. I drive semi-aggressively every so often but haven't seen any track time. So far so good. Plans are to lower the car about an inch or so, pump gas, and drive. My highest priority is to save up and have the rear trunk/subframe welds strengthened before I do anything crazy with the car. Figured I'd update.

your last post, 2nd to last pic:
car looks like an RC car sitting there.
Looks good! I think with that smaller profile tire and a little more negative camber up front, they might look a little more at home.
IMG_1417 (002).jpgThese wheels always look good
A guy at the car wash told me that when I was getting in. Told me I'm too big for it because I had to get in butt first and swing in.
I concur. Front tire is massive. I'm having trouble finding options for a decent e36/7-8 adjustable coilover system but I'm planning to Christmas gift the old girl after bonus time. I see the trend that the new E36 options all have adjustable height in the rear shocks and mounting tabs on the front shocks for the sway bar so i'm checking that avenue and opting for some extended top hats.
Yes! It took me a while to find a real OEM set but it was worth it. That looks good on your 36vert!

id rather have those roadsters tho
Finally got around to making a decision as far as front tire. I was compromising between a 235/40/18 and a 225/40/18 and finally settled on the 225 Bridgestone G-Force to eliminate any rubbing issues for when the car is lowered. They are fairly wide for a 225 but they are a little shorter than the 245/40 I had on there previously. The tire should tuck now under load... if it doesn't I can still swap the top hats. The setup is fairly meaty and should work well balancing pressures with the stiffer suspension.
After
Before
Now that I finally made a decision on tire choice - suspension is in the works to get rid of the horrendous wheel gap and replace the clapped out stock springs/struts/shocks. I decided to go with the Koni single adjustable shocks front and rear. In the front I'm going with Ground Control coilovers in a 440lb rate and I received some rear TCKline 500lb standard springs which I will probably be selling. I have purchased a new set of TCKline 700lb shorty springs with height adjusters to balance the car and drop it approximately 1" from where it is now. I also purchased a set of helper springs to keep the front springs in place during any corner unloading. Looking forward to next season and testing the 440f/700r combo.
