I've heard much the same. Hardware is good but when it comes to tuning there are much better options. I've already sourced an RMS aftercooler and it does seem to be well engineered but I called them for some product support several weeks ago and they were not very helpful nor knowledgeable.
Currently on the search for a set of RMS longtubes, if anyone has any leads please let me know. My parts bin is continues to grow as I plunge deeper into this build.

Wow, that's a great find! I spent quite a few months watching for a set of used RMS headers to pop up with no luck, so to get a brand new pair for $795 is a great deal. I wound up finding a used set of AA long tubes that were ceramic coated for $850 and jumped on those. I would think they make pretty much the same power RMS would. Used RMS headers were sold in the past for anywhere from $650 on up to $900 I believe so again this price seems good.

Everyone is in luck. (except for you Turbo snobs... really get the fuck over it. Not everyone wants your life.) They are in the process of fabbing another batch. I ordered a set directly from them a few weeks ago. Should be another 4 weeks before delivery (getting them ceramic coated). Never trust AA's website. Whoever runs it isn't on top of their game. I ordered their stage 2 supercharger kit back in August. Guess what, it was "unavailable" on their website. ALSO, just to put a nail in a coffin about how poorly the site is ran. I'm not sure if it's still like this but the thumbnail for the Stoptech brake kit they sell was a picture of Brembos. Clear as day said Brembo on the calipers, but the description was "Stoptech".... Pretty stupid. However, their products are awesome. No complaints and everything they build fits like a glove.

Many of us turbo supporters have already been there and done that with the supercharger. We know the difference. It’s not snobbery, though it may seem like that to those who don’t know any better. In the old days, before as many people knew how great turbos were on these cars, people were using AA Race headers and wearing holes in the bottom because they scraped. Hopefully AA changed the specs.
I get bored of the BUY a TURBO line in almost every SC thread.
My sleeper/wagon on E85 is doing about 480ft lbs to the wheels on a small'ish turbo. I enjoy it's power delivery. But I don't want something like that in my Roadster as I enjoy the contrast of my blower setup feeling like NA dialed up to 11. My wagon easily makes 150ft lbs more than my BMW. On the flip side the wagon is much lower on HP. I think if I didn't have a turbo car already and was starting from 0 I would totally turbo the Roadster.

The typical tuned factory turbo car with undersized turbo that has big torque and more modest horsepower and that runs out of steam on the top end. I agree that is not the best power curve. Most of us have big horsepower to go with our big torque. The centrifugal power curve is very gradual and metered — predictable, and some like that.
I wouldn’t mind having an AA stage 2 on my current e36 . The more power usually the more useless the car is.

I started off with Turner Headers I didn't want to lose and then a complete RMS stage 2 for $1800. Sure, I put in more money along the way. But at the time there was no way I could get up and running with a turbo for anywhere close to that money. The LOW tq of the blower allowed me to run for 3yrs without needing a clutch or needing to touch my stock headgasket at 13psi. Now that I've done those things if I had done it all at once and with all the money up front, yeah, it's hard to argue with a turbo setup on an S52. But for me I showed 161whp gain on the same Dyno at MaxPsi for under $2k in used parts.

I started with a used centrifugal as well. It was the cheapest forced induction ar the time (2005).
The people who immediately say buy a turbo do become a little repetitive. Like I have mentioned in previous threads I am purpose building this car to be S/C. I know I can build it with a turbo and get higher HP/TQ figures and I do plan on doing that with an E30 and having it as a shop/light track car. I also enjoy the challenge, S/C E36s putting down higher HP/TQ numbers aren't really heard of, especially where I live, I intend to change that while also maintaining full functionality of all my factory options/controls.

The SC record for a US spec E36M3 is about 500/400 on a Dynojet in SAE. It could be higher but few looking for big power bother with the supercharger anymore since the turbo works so much better. E85 will help, a dedicated drive big crank pulley in 8 rib (which makes fitting a good puller fan a challenge) will reduce the belt slip that you run into spinning the blower to its limit, multiple bypass valves to prevent damage, a large air to water or air to air intercooler, and a big blower like a Ti Trim that has plenty of overhead to still put down big rwhp while some of its output is being soaked up compensating for its drag on the crankshaft, and good coolant and oil cooling.
A few non BMW supercharger owners have played around with increasing torque and midrange power by spinning the blower much faster and bleeding off boosted air at higher rpm so boost does not go too high. It’s not very efficient and requires a blow through hfm, but it changes the boost curve. Normally a centrifugal makes peak boost only at peak rpm, and makes only the square root of peak boost at half peak rpm. For example, I made 16 psi at 7000 rpm but less than 4 psi at 3500 rpm. A turbo would make 16 at 3500 and 16 at 7000, and run away from the centrifugal car.
I’d like to see what happens with the M122 Eaton positive displacement supercharger project one member is developing as a partial kit. The PD blower will make full boost even sooner than the turbo and carry it right through to redline, but it drags on the crank like a centrifugal. You can get an idea how it might do by reading Tanks95 thread — he has a modified twin screw system that has been a work in progress over the years. Last I recall, he was in the 500+ rwhp range with torque into the 400s.
