This is awesome. Thanks for paving the way on s85 stuff. Guess now I have to start keeping an eye out for a drivetrain
I'm just adding to the paving, others have come before me. Considering going to the dark side are you?

Great work man!!
Almost none of this will apply to swapping this engine in those cars. Electronically the e38 will be a lot more difficult as well. Theres a guy V10 swapping his E39 which would be much more comparable to the models youve mentioned. E61 imo is the better bet, E38s are heavy boats and putting a low-torque high-revving race inspited engine in it would make little sense to me personally, of course ymmv...
I'd bet that a short wheel base e38 weighs pretty close to the same as e61.
Why would none of it apply? I can find the measurement of the frame rail spacing and strut housing spacing and compare that to my spacing. I can see the type of hood clearance he has compared the height and shape of the z3 hood. I can see how the pan fits around the steering rack. There is so much useful information stored away in the pictures that he is sharing for anyone that wants to do an s85 swap. Not to mention all the verbal challenges, solutions, and anecdotes that are being shared as well.
Why would the E38 be more difficult electronically? The ebox is in the same location. Doesn't the MS4x use the same plugs as the mss52 and the bosch 7.2? I would expect it to have the same x60004 connector that goes to the body, as well as a 12 pin connector. Maybe the X69 connector for the underhood diagnostic plug. I haven't investigated the gauge cluster, but BMW is in general pretty good about staying consistent with that sort of thing over all their platforms. So from a wiring standpoint the obstacles are likely very similar.
Edit: Sorry for clogging up the thread with nonsesnse.

Something been bothering me about 1 part of the build and thats the headers, the aren't symmetrical and they could have been built better. So headers 2.0 is in the works but I'm in need of a wrecked Z for a front cut. The plan is while I have the engine out of the car (so I can paint the engine bay) new headers can be built. Would the current headers work? answer is yes but... they just are not on par with the rest of the build.
...ill take the headers v1.0 off your hands...

Don't let the color choice throw you off... This is his car with the S85 at our local drifting championship event. He's also attended international European championships last week. The guy's pretty much unhinged... They call him the Boss or ///MBoss...

This is from last year when he was more subtle with the E39 V8. 2090 pounds (950 kg) It took up so much space that the driver's seat is actually in the rear.
This is a vid from end of last year

Anything happening to this?

Yes there is. I guess if it was filled with fluids and connect a few wires she could start.
Videos appreciated when it is time to drive it.

Hey all, I can't believe its been so long since I've posted any updates. Well not a lot has been done on the car itself - not enough light, cold and work is crazy busy. I have been working on the wiring in the house and the has been challenging with cats!!
After purchasing some new connectors and lots of terminals all of the repining is done, wires have been shortened/lengthened and new terminals have bee added/changed. Now it needs to go back in and some splicing needs to be done. A strong magnifying glass was needed as many of the terminals are only a few MM's wide and the wires are 0.5mm but after a few mistakes you figure it out.

Oh and I picked up a few of these! They are for sale. The one with the red top has no gauge (older style) is a little less $$

Anyone heard from Lars lately? He has not been returning my emails. I am working on trying to fit a V10 in my M Coupe, and need guidance on the crossmember/steering rack. I am not sure how Lars has fit the engine in without cutting the oil pan and still being able to run stock steering rack and close the hood.
