    S85 V10 M Roadster

First a little background on the car. When I purchased it the only mods I was going to do were tires/wheels and a strut tower brace. Well that didn’t last long (mywife wasn’t surprised either) and I soon found myself looking to make more power and to make it more unique. Soon these came to pass via the car headers, exhaust, intake manifold, BBTB etc., but this still didn’t fulfill what I was looking for. Soon I was on the hunt for somethingdifferent and I found it with a Euro sport twin screw and that worked for several years. Now, after some years on the car I thought about how to make theES/TS different, so I picked up another S52 and did a fully built FI engine andalso found a 2.2L TS (they come with a 1.7L Kenne bell). Well, again I found myself looking for something different and then I re-read 2 builds I had seen awhile ago about installing S85’s in coupes! That was it - I was going to shoehorn one of these beasts in the roady.

I removed the nice new engine and 6-speed. They came out and I was on the hunt for a V10, and I soon discovered that it made more sense to buy a complete wreck than try to buy all the pieces separately. Since I’m in Western Canada I found zero wrecked M5/6’s and I also tried across the entire country. Now I looked southand I found Copart - that was an experience. I finally found a 2007 M6 that hada Buy It Now and the purchase was made. Since this car was terminal I didn’t feel bad about stripping it. Well, I got the donor home and when a buddy started it up - what a fantastic sound!! As it turns out the previous owner had installed exhaust cutouts, so before the engine came out this had to be driven around the neighborhood - much to the displeasure some of my neighbors! I was nervous about buying a car whose engine I had never heard run, for all I know it could have had a bad engine.

Having owned a manual M6, I can't imagine the engine in a Z chassis; this is awesome! The S85 is an engineering marvel to behold.

This thread will need videos when finished

This will be very fun to watch.
    Very nice looking so far.
The sound will be as much fun as the power.

Hah, most people start the thread with, "I want to do such and such, cool or no?"...
You already have the donor and engine apart.
This is going to be good.

Looks like the M6's previous missed the curve. Imagine being on that ride. Is this going to be for straight line racing or just something fun to terrorize the streets.

I mean, I've never been a fan of the S85 in an E60/63/64 chassis... But this is pretty awesome. Great work so far!

What's scary is that someone actually tried (poorly) to fix that chassis. Typical of Copart cars.

Thanks. I think Mr. Forbes subframe kit is in my future unless the M6 diff goes in... I've already made a steel transmission brace.

I just got back from the shop that's building the headers, I may have to start it with the exhaust disconnected...

I does look like it, the passenger door was touching the seat, I'm thinking soiled underwear! This will be for the highways and some street use.

I know, they wasted a lot of time and the car is slightly banana shaped.

Awesome work so far! Can't wait to see it running!

Thanks. well when your famous I'm putting the subframe on EBay... LOL

Very interesting; excited to see the packaging. So... what are you doing with that twin screw setup?

Are you using original BMW or an aftermarket computer to control the motor? Very cool

That looks like a Burns merge collector. They are gorgeous, but with 5 inlets it takes up a lot of vertical space; will it be able to fit under the car?

It does look like a Burns merge collector but these came from Columbia river mandrel bending, they have better pricing and they are a little closer to me. We've already done some test fitting and there is enough room but it is tight. The steering shaft is the biggest issue especially at #10 exhaust port.
