Howdy all,
I'm new BMWs, but I've been around cars for a while.
I have an opportunity to buy an '11 535i with X-Drive from a family member for what a dealer will give him in trade-in. It's only got 51K miles on it. The carfax will show some collision damage because the bumpers were replaced after a parking lot bump, but no sheetmetal work was ever done. All of the scheduled maintenance has been taken care of, and it's got a new battery.
Currently, my wife drives an '09 Acura TSX with 70K-ish miles on it. This would be a nice upgrade for her.
My question to the group is, is this a good idea? Is buying a Bimmer with 50K asking for problems down the road maintenance wise? I know things will be somewhat more expensive to repair, but are they reliable? What kinds of failures/problems are these cars known for? Are there many still on the road with over 200K miles?
TIA!

Personally I believe the Acura will be much more reliable
Check Consumer Reports, but I believe they really start to get reliable in 2015.
