That's more than most M5's sell for! Now I'm wanting to build an M5t... not for myself, but to cash in on this hunger for fast wagons.

Brian's car exactly matched the highest E39 sales price on BaT. The other car was a Dinan S3 M5 with 27k miles.
That the new owner is going to have Brian do a color change on the interior is amazing. Not sure what he's going with yet, but Brian's going to have the wagon here for a while longer.
Another thought is that he was way under-insured on the car...something for everyone to think about with an M5 that is valued by the marketplace right now. Heck, anyone with a very low mileage 540i/6 or 530i, garaged since new, excellent provenance, etc, is likely way under-insured also.

Yes, insurance is a bitch on cars like these. You just have to be willing to buy back the car and try to find another chassis to swap over to really. I called a whole bunch of specialty places and only one or two would do it but wanted all of my cars insured with them and the premium wasn't worth it to me.
Yeah, I wonder how you would insure a car that you paid $72k for... a crazy agreed-value policy, I presume? The blue book on a 2003 540it M-Sport is $7300 in excellent condition, and that's legally what the car is.

Agreed value with Hagerty might work. I have Hagerty insurance on my 1983 Audi Ur Quattro with agreed value coverage. They will insure newer cars, I recently got a quote for a 2000 996 (which the Ur Quattro more than likely will _not_ be replaced with but I was curious).
Insurance won't be cheap, but probably still less than a Tesla
Bottom line when you pay 72K for a car like that, (Immaculate car by the way) and dont want to get screwed if some idiot hits you, (happens all the time) its going to cost to replace it if the unimaginable happens, insurance companies will agree to fix knowing ahead of time the car is unique...and that comes at a price, on a car like Brian`s it wont be cheap...but think how its going to feel if that kid on their cell phone is not paying attention broadsides a car like that...excellent sale by the way, 17K over my est...

Not sure if this one has been posted before, I may have missed it if it was, with the sale of Redshifts @ 72K will that affect the sales prices of 540iTs to come? Maybe / maybe not so much / will see...but even though this one is overpriced, IMO I dont think for what it is its that far out of line, only 40 2003 M Sport in black 540iTs / 23 Sapphire and 17 black, both of those only 10 w/black interior each...very low #s. I already know many of you wont give a S$#@ it being a 2003 M Sport and priced higher, but IMO "only" this car is worth every cent if could be had for $13500ish to 15kish...the 72K may be a fluke, even so 15K would be cheap...

M5 wagon in San Diego for $24k: https://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/...837007089.html
I was at the auction that it sold at, way back in May 2018. It sold for $5500 and it was super rough back then. Doesn't look like it's had a whole lot done to it since then. Guy thinks he's gonna get $24k for a salvage title M5t with a very questionable past...

He’s an idiot, but then there are even dumber idiots out there with more money than brains. That car at $5500 was a cool deal for an enthusiast that would have really appreciated it, and enjoyed it.

Just checked out the ad, Jeezuz, the guys even trying to cash in on Brian’s $72,000 sale of his wagon! Bet he’ll get 9 or 10 grand, but you’d think the guy would at least clean the freakin thing for craps sake!!!!

I love how it still has the Montana plate that it had when it went up for auction almost a year ago. That means it hasn't really been registered or driven, which is extremely reassuring.

any common reason why a 540it will not to start? I am thinking about checking it out over the weekend to source a low mile m62. I already have a low mile (67k) 6 speed swap kit sourced and am looking for an engine and suspension refresh
This looks interesting and a good color combo w/ 6 speed...
No Reserve: 2000 BMW 540i Touring 6-Speed for sale on BaT Auctions - ending March 27 (Lot #17,402) | Bring a Trailer
I am watching this closely as my soon to be manual swapped 540iT will be up for sale, maybe on BAT. Not sure if the details are just omitted by BAT in the description but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of maintenance done for a vehicle with 200k on the chassis and 140k on the motor. No indication of chain guides being replaced, if so that makes you want to bonk them on the side of the head for not addressing that while the motor was out.
Presents well in the color and on the Apex wheels but I feel the auction price will stay relatively low due to the relatively sparse maintenance for the mileage, hopefully I am wrong!

Very local to me!
Agree will stay low, probably less than 16K...thought same on TCGs, (rereading thru the post on this car seller confirms they will do the work with pics for the new owner, class act for them to do that)...BaT is a perfect for yours...no way to compair that car to what you created...not a good comparison at all, if BaT presents yours like your posts dont see how you cant get 25K - 30K +++ 30K seems so cheap...would imagine you`ll get close to the same reaction as that 72K surprise...
