That first 2000 one is way overpriced, even with the guides done. My friend bought a 2002 540it with 180k miles and the guides done in Alpine White on Black, sport package, for only $2000 in Colorado!

That's a steal. I'd pay up to $6k for a super clean one if I were looking. At $2k, I'm worried but I know they're out there.

I guarantee the $2k one my friend bought was way cleaner than the 2000 one listed above. I bought it with him and gave it my blessing, it's honestly in better shape than my own 540it. Granted, that was an exceptionally good deal, and in any other case I could easily see that same car selling for $5k.

I post these up here but if there's a way, I'd go look/smell it for someone. See if it warrants a PPI.

The 2002 touring is mine. We met the other day at tipsy cow. I also have the alpine white full leather M5 that was there.

Just trying to let the world know they're out there/available. It's best, I think, to keep them "in the family" so to speak.

I wish they were on the East coast and a bit cheaper. I'm thinking on upgrading the wife's 525iT.

Life is negotiable. If you get to a price you like, plenty of gyys here to go look at it for you before you commit.

Missing cargo shade, looks like fender liner(s) are missing.
The cluster has been modified. For that kind of $, I’d expect it to at least be complete.
Solid color combo, great wheels, interior looks really good, and exterior looks generally cared for. They may be a bit high on this one, but very interesting nonetheless.

That's a 2000 M5 cluster. Interesting little mod, considering that everything else appears to be pretty stock. I wonder if they coded the cluster to the car correctly and got all the gauges/warmup lights working properly...

Had my eye on that car the day it listed, IMO the price is not bad probably could be had for $7500ish to $8000ish, don't think at higher end it's over priced. If $8000 would buy it think its worth that all day long. I like the relatively low miles, low for a wagon. When I was looking early Dec specifically wanted the 2003, paid a bit more for the one purchased because of details, made a snap decision locking the car up while putting details in place. Had I not bought the one I did this would have been a serious contender, like it, to me, price is reasonable. Surprised no sale its one of the cleaner ones offered. Nice addition of the gauge cluster...first though maybe BMW installed it because they had leftovers from 2000? Its weird rest of the car is all stock. Unusual to add the gauges...but who knows...

The low miles and high price would keep me from wanting that car. Low mileage just means more stuff to fix because everything inevitably breaks with age. I bought my 540it with 174k miles for like $5k but it had a lot of things replaced, like the chain guides. So I've been driving it for 27k miles and I haven't needed to replace anything more major than some suspension components. Haven't needed to touch the engine at all— no leaks either.

Yes, this is how I'm going about looking for a 540iT as well. Basically what's the best maintained version I can afford. Essentially that leaves it to buying from a private seller. I'm not in a hurry anyway as the wife's 525iT is doing fine for now. I may also consider going the route of an e91 to have more buying options and newer.

Good deals on well-maintained 540it's come up every now and then, you just have to be quick to jump on them. My friend recently bought a 2002 540it from Colorado for $2000! It's Alpine White with a black interior, sport package, heated seats, nav, PDC. Basically fully loaded and in immaculate shape. It had higher miles, with 188k, but the previous owner gave us a $4000 receipt for the chain guide job that he had done at a shop the year prior. I was honestly a little jealous, that wagon is nicer than mine, and for less than half of what I paid!

So true, a crap shoot with how soon will it start needing major attention, low miles a double edge sword...

& Danny love that color of yours, my first choice, I think the that red is rarer than many think its probably one of less than 25 US production
in all years of the E39 run...I could be wrong but very few indeed...

Wow, at that price I might take two! By the way I love your Japanrot touring. That would be my first choice of color, but the wife would probably rather have silver.

Thanks! I love the color, it's very unique. The trouble is that there are very few tourings in that color, most were either silver or white. I've always liked the way the white ones looked, especially with the sport package and blacked out trims.

We used to have a 2000 528iT 5pd Sport in Sedona (maroon) that I loved. The wife could never get the hang of a manual, so I had to sell it after replacing the clutch. The 525 is just slow in comparison, so that's why I'm thinking of a 540 now.
