I'm going to just throw this out there. Once you buy your first piece, toss the word budget out the window. Yes, you might be able to have a turbo car with a sub $4,000 budget........... INITIALLY.
It will start, and drive. But the first time you press that pedal to the floor making 450-500whp and hold it till redline ? You just smoked your first (hopefully ) crack rock.
This is just the beginning. Then it doesn't even have to be about wanting more power, it could be you want better parts, more more more more and more. Read every thread on these boards. Almost everyone here doesn't have endless money, but they keep upgrading EVERYTHING. needed or not. Every single build gets out of control. 100% every one.
So, don't even bother talking about saving money. Cause you won't, just like every other crack head junky here. If there is a guy who does , #1 they don't drive it. #2 it scares them. Or #3 they don't drive it cause it scares them.

I'm not afraid to admit that my car scares me. Especially at 80+ because it just doesn't want stop and it's so rapid and takes no time to get there. And the thing about a car is that gives us a false sense of security. When I'm on my bike I know for certain, I will die at those speeds. A e36 at 80 + maybe ?
And yes my car is no where near butters or most guys on here. But in general these cars are fast when done right. For some reason the car feels faster than my bike
It is an addiction

Yeah, I'm kind of expecting it to go down that route after it gets built, but I'm hoping I can budget the initial building pretty well.
Little bit off topic here, but does anyone have an idea as for how much these Shark Injectors go for on here? I happen to have on laying around, and don't have much use for it. Thanks

Relabel it "Shark Edit Prototype" and then put it on auction on eBay. Could be worth an M1 oil filter.

I'm afraid the joke hasn't registered
Arent those married to ECU?
I don't know anything about it, my dad found it one of the cars he bought a long time ago.
Yes, married to ECU. You must sell ECU with it and have someone delete EWS on the ECU.
Well as long as you still have the DME that came with the car you could probably get a few bucks for it. I don't think there as popular as they used to be though
I remember reading about them like 6 years when I did an m50 manifold swap. Price was outrageous
Well I definitely don't have the ECU because that car was sold years ago, I guess it's more of a collectors piece. Thanks guys
Hey Guys! Happy almost New Years!
Back on the turbo talk, I was wondering if you guys could let me know how much you guys paid to have your heads resurfaced and cleaned? I'm trying to get it added to the spreadsheet, but I'm having difficulties finding specific examples for the m50/m52 head. Thanks!
$150-250 depending on where u go. Over $250 is a bit much honestly.

you might as well have them do valve stem seals as well. I think I got set for $ 20 buck? And resurface was right around $130. If you do valve stem seals they should clean the inside out anyway. Outside was still dirty but I could have taken care of that myself.
Alright thanks guys, I'll see if anyone on the FI forums here is local to Indianapolis and ask the where they got their work on the head done.
Talked to doktor B and got a couple good machine shops in the Indianapolis area.
I may be purchasing a black on black 5 speed coupe 328is with 173k this weekend. The price is $4200 and it comes with so many expensive goodies and 2 extra sets of wheels. Owner says blackstone test was good and he's got a sheet of paper written down with 2 pages of documented work. This may be the one, and hopefully I'll be a new owner soon
Hi guys! Been a while since I posted on this thread, but I have a question. Are you guys gapping your spark plugs for boost? And if so is there a resource here where I can find out how to do that and to what specs? Thanks!
Gap them to 0.022 for up to say 17#. With larger turbos and more boost, you have to tighten them up more.
How to gap them. ...
But a set of feeler gauges, insert the desired gap gauge. Then, take a pair of channel locks and squeeze together.
