    Has anyone tried this window?

The bead on my rear window is lifting and would like to replace the window, even though I only use the car in good weather. I found these on ebay and wonder if anybody here used them and what their opinion is. Also will the window leak with the bead lifting if caught in a heavy rain?

They are the same window. Heckscheiben apparently makes the current OE window, which is sold by ADM (Art Design Muenster).
The bead trims the edge of the canvas and has no sealing function. The sealing is done by double sided tape behind the trim, between the canvas and the plastic window.
The window will seal without the trim if the canvas has not lifted from the tape. But without the rigid trim, the canvas may eventually loosed from the tape.

Heckscheiben is just German for (more or less) 'rear windows.' Scheiben is used for other things like washers too, but in this case it seems to mean 'sheet' as in sheet of plastic, maybe? Maybe rear pane...

I don't think ADM makes the OE windows, they just came up with a copy-replacement that's a lot cheaper. Still haven't installed mine, by the way. On the list...

Heckscheiben makes the windows. They are identical to OE, so I think Heckscheiben could be the present supplier to BMW of OE Z3 windows.

    ADM (
Art Design Munster) does not make the Heckscheiben Z3 window, but is the vendor of them and other rear windows.

I put one on my Z this Fall. It was fine; quality appeared good and installation was no more or less difficult than everyone said it would be. Yeah, the trick is starting the zipper. Once that's done it zips up pretty smoothly. I ended up basically installing it twice as there was too much tension on the roof (didn't have it propped up enough?) and the zipper started to separate by the time I got around 360 degrees to the bottom.

They supply a roll of double sided tape. I found it to be kind of narrow and not sure if I got good adhesion on both surfaces all the way around. It's kind of tricky to route the tape around the corners...takes some patience. Can't comment on it's water integrity as we haven't been in any wet conditions yet. If I find it's not water tight, I'd consider using a bush-on adhesive like some of the other windows use.

One note, when I clicked your ebay links, I was surprised to see the price is now $127. I paid $88 back in Oct (plus $21.50 for shipping). Quite a big increase.

But still less than half the cost of an identical OE window with BMW parts system stickers on the box, like I got from Roadster Solutions.
