2003 Z4 2.5i; recently had a microswitch to break and when it was replaced the top floor shelf would not maintain sufficient contact as top was lowered to keep the switch contact closed. Switch housing was shimmed out by the technician and everything works as it should. Question - can one simply fool the microswitch by manually inserting a small piece to keep it in the closed position (i.e. indicating that the shelf is in the lowered position)? Has anyone else done this and were there any ill effects?
Just wondering in case something like this happens again. Realize this is a built in precaution against having insufficient space to house the lowered convertible top but I never have needed to have the shelf in the top position in the five plus years of owning my Z4. Thanks, Steve
Yes, been covered before.
I took out the microswitch and used a paperclip to jump the harness
