Looking for some help with my 2006 BMW 750li. I just recently had to bring my car into an Indy shop for a pretty bad oil leak that was leaking on my alternator. I had the alternator and battery replaced and they replaced gaskets on the timing covers and the alternator bracket. The oil leak has seemed to be fixed however not the car isn't running so that great. It has a rough idle at times and then seems to snap out of it and run great other times. Ive given it about 300 miles for the computer to learn everything again however it is still happening. Typically when I first put the car in drive it sputters and has very reduced power. sometimes it only last a few seconds then starts driving great. Other times it continues to run with reduced power like it is misfiring until i shut the car off and restart it and then it will run fine. My initial thoughts is that it has something to do with the timing setting on the computer but im not sure of the working of this car. I ran a scan and have multiple error codes showing crankshaft sensor and timing errors as well as multiple cylinder misfires. I have some of the codes listed below. If anyone has any advise of what I can do to correct this it would be very appreciated. Thanks for your help!

It sounds like the shop didn’t do a perfect job when it fixed the oil leak. That V8 engine is extremely complicated so I’m betting there’s an unconnected connector buried in the nether regions. Go back to the shop and explain what is happening.
Yeah, um, no. The shop told you to give it a bunch of miles to "relearn", huh? That's BS, sorry.
The cam/crank timing is out. Now, if the shop you took it to is not a BMW specialist, therein lies the rub.
You're reading P-codes, and that equates to absolute nonsense, on your car. You need to read BMW codes, not government bureaucratic emissions crap.
It's likely that you're going to need to have the engine apart, to reset the cam/crank timing, and probably replace faulty timing chain tensioners, rails, maybe even a stretched chain.
Hey, it was a ~$90,000 car, new, which means you should expect to spend ~$4000 to 5000 per year on maintenance and repairs. Any years this wasn't spent ACCRUE, so you might just owe your car ~ $ 35,000. I know, you thought you bought it at a bargain price, huh?
Sorry, but after the warranty ends, these cars are worthless, because no one can afford to fix them. If you doubt this, just look at the resale values:....oh, $2000.....

My cheap fix guess: the vanos solenoid connectors are reversed.
An optimist ! Good thinking, my friend. While you and I note the extra length of wire will go to the further away solenoid, a non-BMW guy might miss that.

Thanks for the info guys! The shop I took it too is a friend of the family that owns the shop and he is a BMW specialist. I think for this he may have had someone else work on it who was not because I noticed a few mistakes. For one the whole intake system was not connected. All of the hose clamps were loose and the hoses were leaking bad. Once I fixed that it ran a lot better but it still happens at startup.
They shop did not tell me that the computer needs to "relearn" anything I just saw that in countless forums so I figured I would give it some time. I will check the solenoids tonight. I must admit I am a little lost with this car. I have had many other BMW's before and never seen some of the strange engineering decisions that have been made on this model. The alternator bracket gasket? What the hell was the thinking on that? This is also the newest BMW ive had so having so many aspects of this car controlled by the computer and electronics on this car is a bit intimidating.
That being said, am I totally wrong in thinking that this is some sort of computer related issue since 98% of the time it runs great and only shudders at start up? All weekend it didn't happen once, then this morning in the AM going to work it stuttered when I went into drive for 5 seconds and back to normal.
