In this month's issue of Vanity Fair, they profile a Kurdish fighter who escorted residents out of an Isis controlled city using an armored 750il. They describe it as factory-built with polycarbonate windows that don't fully retract, kevlar padding in the doors and other vulnerable areas, higher strength steel in doors, body pan, etc.
Any idea of the option numbers?
Sansouci
Wasn't this the same guy from a year or so ago? IIRC it was a protection packaged 735.
E32 S = security/protection
thickness of the windows, the stacks of modules and the fire extinguisher central module in the trunk, flat run tires a standard, intercom, and the bullet - proof windshields, if you go to www.realoem.com and select the 750iLS you will find that the front window has an explosive device to blow the windshield out in case of emergency, because fireman/rescue workers will have a hard time to rescue people. The "eject" button for this 'window blower' is in the center console. The weight of the front shield is around 80 kg, price for the windshield is more than our average complete E32 has cost.
complete engine bay is eqipped with the fire extinguisher system, and the metal plate between trunk and interior room has in the trunk a thick steel plate to protect against bullets/rockets fire from behind.
Remote control of engine is standard in order to avoid explosions of the car with wired up stuff which could explode when engine is started, and many other gimmicks.
Still the price is high for these old E32 S protection, they are 'cheap' protection cars in some parts of this world still now.
But the 'poor' driver has to live without leather seats, just plastic or fabrics for that poor fellow, and lumbar control for the driver is probably also out of question.
I have once driven such a car in Germany from a member of the German 7-forum, no fun to drive, too heavy, max. speed limiter set to around 220 kmh even for the 750 because of probs with tires for this heavy weight car.
Only front window can be opened a bit usually.
Heavy wear on steering connections and wheel hub bearings and fuel consumption is skyrocketing because of the weight.
