Throttle body coolant loop - delete?

What is the heated throttle body for? Emissions control?

I’m wanting to delet that coolant loop just to eliminate the possibility of leaks and corrosion. It’s not a problem now but one day everything on a 28 year old engine will need attention.

will I be harming anything? Will it fool the fuel injection system somehow, in a bad way?

Aimed more for cold weather cars to prevent throttle icing. I'm in flatland NC. ~5 to 10 deg is normally our coldest morning. Never had an issue, been running it looped bypassing the TB for years. You should be fine in SC.

I would agree with e30oe21 .... more critical for cold weather running in freezing temperatures. I know it is common in warmer climates to delete, but when my throttle body coolant loop sprang a massive leak last winter I had this discussion with my mechanic and we agreed to go with the repair option as my E30 runs all winter long and sometimes in pretty miserable weather conditions.

So in SC you are probably just fine to delete the loop... recognizing the risk if you venture out into a freezing snow storm somewhere when you are away from home.
... forty-three years of driving before I get behind the wheel of a BMW .... and I am thinking, "why did it take me so long?"
... and then after another 4 years I can't believe that I have two of them !!

    Thanks for the replies.

next question-I know how to look at the realoem pages. Still, does anyone out there just sell a kit with ALL new coolant hoses. I want to rebuild my cooling and vacuum systems. My car is a really clean ‘89 325i with 200k. It runs great but needs refreshing. Ireland engineering sells a set but doesn’t include the deep hoses under the intake and at the firewall. Those are the ones a I really need.

There’s some funny discussion on this in the newer cars. Some fear messing up the obd computers, lol. Gotta love the M20...
