I personally agree with maybe half of those choices.

How in the world could they not include the FD Rx7 and the E36 M3?

Meh. Its like someone writing a 10 best albums of the 90s list. Its subjective and everyone other than you is always going to be wrong.

    - 98 m3, techno/anthrazit cloth, 124k and officially worthless - 89 m3, alpine/black 143k and officially old - 2000 323it, tiag/grey, 169k and officially boring

Foxbody 'Stang is the only obviously stupid one, IMO. Including a Ferrari and McLaren is a bit cheap if you ask me, because they're not really "normal" cars owned in any reasonable numbers.
    Current:
    98 M3/4/5 Alpine/Magma
    05 MazdaSpeed Miata

    Sold:

    00 Honda VFR
    99 528iT M/T
    98 M3/4/5 Arctic/Dove
    94 R-package Miata
    89 Honda NT650

Probably not worth complaining if the list has no class/price restrictions and has stuff like the F1 and NSX on it. If money is no object, the E36 is nowhere near the top 10 of its era.

Probably because the US did not get the euro engines. Would be a different story if we had.

This is always overstated. Yes we all know the Euro engine was better, and BMW didn't use it in the US for emissions/cost reasons. The US-spec car still reviewed extremely well at the time. It was better than the E30 M3 it replaced in just about every measurable aspect (except maybe looks). You can get pretty close to the Euro engine's power numbers by modding a US S52 with all the typical NA stuff and a tune, for a hell of a lot cheaper than swapping in a Euro engine or (soon) importing a Euro E36 M3. The only thing I really lust after from the Euro is the 6 speed engine, and I only care about that for freeway driving and gas mileage (laugh). On the track the 5 speed is just as good or better since you're basically never going to be going fast enough to justify shifting into 6th.

    Power isn't everything.
