    Disintegrating Wheelhouse Liners

The original task was to replace a failing alarm siren in the right rear wheelhouse but it turned out to be a bit more. As I began removing the wheelhouse liner, it simply cracked and disintegrated, like the dry-rotted plastic powder it was:

I wasn't going to install a new siren behind a liner like that. It would only be ruined by water and grime exposure. A quick check of the other rear liner showed it was in similar condition. Oddly enough, the front liners were OK.

In disgust, I ordered a pair of rear wheelhouse liners ($86 each from here):

It was almost fun pulling out the old carcass:

Finally, a week later - the main objective: the alarm siren...

All back together, this is as clean as it will ever be:

Man how I would love to rip out that complex, fault-code-waiting-to-happen junk!

Just changed out my liners as well. Crazy how the rears just disintegrate.

Changed mine 2 months ago as well. Wonder if it’s caused by the bigger tires out back 285/40?

Did you guys check out your battery vent hose? Area behind the wheel liner on mine had been eaten by acid/gas over the years. I ran new hose, clean up area with baking soda.

After cleaning up the acid destruction, I routed new vent hose over and connected it to vent inside the plastic chamber of the outer fender wall.

Luckily my liners were in decent shape. I cleaned them up and painted them.

I changed the front and rear as well as the flat pieces just behind the fronts. They were totally dry rotted and shot, really bugged me. Probably not a good use of funds given what my car really is. Yours looks nice Frankie.
