Thanks. I've never been away. Just ultra busy without any chance to get to my own toys - which is a shame. But bills want to be paid.

no plan yet but working on it. Be sure that I'm not going to keep any interesting info for myself

Here a brief update on my findings. It's a shame to see how this car has been mistreated in the past.
The engine took ages to warm up so I decided to replace the thermostat. This is what I found. The thermostat was glued in with some gum. Someone obviously thought to be on the safe side this way.
I also had continuous CEL issues in combination with a poor running engine. Standard E31 problem:
I replaced it with a good used one plus cleaned them both up a little:
I'm also planning to start the wheel conversion asap. 1st to do is remove the tires. Look what I found:
Don't ask me what needs to happen to the rim that it requires "welding" in this area. Normally I cut the lips an re use the barrels. In this case all barrels are damaged (the other ones are just bent).
All I can use are the centers. Everything else needs to be replaced.
The cabling on the driver's side FTP is also not state of the art. I haven't checked the other side yet.
Oh boy. I will be enjoying this thread

That 8 has definitely been uncared for. Fortunately it has found its way to to Wolf's "Shop of Love".

How do you repair that without replacing the entire roof panel? This post has my attention!

After you get a good replacement part from another car it is not a big deal to replace. Yes it takes time but every good body shop can do it. You could do it yourself if you wanted. You just have to do the change one layer at a time so you are able to weld every joint together.

Watch the Saab 96 episode of Wheeler Dealers. Ant fixed rot in a very challenging windscreen sill location for $10 in materials. Of course lots of man hours, but the result is perfect!

It is unfortunate that a shoddy repair led to what you are looking at now. Like I said, that 8 is fortunate to have found its way to you, Wolf.

That roof panel looks like a challenge Wolf. You may remember this: a few years back someone did a complete carbon fiber roof panel. I think the mold was taken from a sunroof delete e31
