Burning more oil than normal WHY????

    Hi all,
I have an 08 535xi and I am 2k miles into my last oil change and had to add 3 qts of oil....
    Any ideas to why???
Exhaust burns fairly clean, I am going to replace the PCV valve this week, but other than that I am lost.
    Theres no excessive oil leaks..
I am running 9 qts of castrol european full synthetic 0W40
I am hoping its not a valve issue or something serious internally, any ideas would be greatly appreciated

    Welcome to the Forum!

The N-5x are really bad about leaking oil out of the valve cover and oil filter housing (OFH). Open the hood while the motor is cold and run your hand along the passenger side of the motor. I am sure it will be wet with oil. BTW BMW doesn't use a PCV, it has a CCV (crank case ventilation) and it is part of the valve cover, which runs in the ballpark of 400 bucks.

So find/fix the oil leaks and then get the CCV tested before you toss 400 bucks at it.

I have an 08 328xi with about 170k miles. I did the valve cover and oil filter housing seals (long overdue) when I had to get in there to replace the CPS due to drivability.

Anyway, no more oil leaks so that’s not an issue but having to add a quart of oil about every 1-2 months (maybe 2,000-2,500 miles). Not your 3 quarts but seemingly it’s consuming it...

OP, more information would be helpful. Is this a sudden-onset oil loss condition, or something that's been ongoing? What intervals have you been running? What's the total mileage on the car? What oil and who's changing it? I suspect dworthy's on the money, but just in case it's something else some more info will help narrow it down.
