Got an 01 330i sedan, right rear axle looks like its made of rust. The black paint on the axle is no longer and it looks like its gonna snap in half any moment now, especially with winter here. No idea how the cvs are doing there, but just did the driveshaft cv as it fell apart when i took it off and tbh it was in good condition. Lotta original parts on it.
Car has 205k miles, was serviced very frequently before i bought it so the engine is in really good condition, some rust but not terrible.
My question is should i just replace the axle or buy another car. The axles run around 400 and i have no problen with doing it myself. It's just the price that bothers me.

Buy a low mile used axle from car-part.com or ebay. They are rarely bad. If it were a left rear, I have one I'd ship you.
Oh man hahaha appreciate the thought. Yeah ill hit up ebay or something, thanks mate
As bad as it looks I'm sure its fine. The shaft itself is very thick, the rust is just on the surface.
It might not be good in 10 or 20 years but if the boots and joints are good I would run it. If that shaft corrodes down to the size of your thumb then you might want to replace it.
i figured the same thing, just i can see it degrading very quickly with all the salt and snow. something im making sure doesnt get too out of hand
